The 2023 Zurich Classic of New Orleans Recap

Avondale, LA – Nick Hardy and Davis Riley have won the 2023 Zurich Classic of New Orleans. The pair became the 20th and 21st first-time winners of the event since 1970. With this win, the two have solidified their fully exempt PGA Tour status through the 2025 season and earned over 1.2 million dollars each.

Hardy and Riley made the annual tournament in the Big Easy look… easy. The duo set a tournament record 30 under-par, including a final round 65 alternate-shot score. The two carded a flurry of birdies on the back nine to seal their inaugural PGA Tour win. This wasn’t exactly a new partnership for these guys, though. They have been best friends and golf partners for years, including playing together in AJGA events at just 14 years old.

There were, of course, several other pairs who contended in this event. The nearest competitors were the Canadians Nick Taylor and Adam Hawin, who scored 28 under par. Another dynamic duo who many thought could win was last year’s defending champions:
Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele. Those two would ultimately finish in a tie for fourth with a score of 26-under.

Next week, players will be done playing in pairs and back to competing on their own, and this time, it’ll be south of the border. The world’s number-one ranked player, Jon Rahm, will look to defend his 2022 Mexico Open title. However, many of the world’s top players seem to be taking a week off. While Tony Finau is currently ranked 16th and will participate, no other player in the top 50 world rankings has confirmed they’ll be playing.
