The 2022 QBE Shootout Recap

Naples, Florida – In their first trip to play in the QBE Shootout, Tom Hoge and Sahith Theegala win the two man competition.  Tom and Sahith are the first pairing to win in their rookie appearance.

The QBE Shootout is an annual stop on the PGA Tour late in the year where players pair up for a week of fun and unique formats.  This week, Sahith Theegala paired up with Tom Hoge and they were a dominant team but not without plenty of challengers.

Round one saw Charley Hoffman and Ryan Palmer go absolutely insane to post a 16 under par to take the 18 hole lead.  Yes it was a scramble format, but nonetheless, there is still only two players with one shot each.  They eagled three out of four of the par-5’s.  Round two saw much of the same.  Palmer and Hoffman okayer modified shot flawlessly, setting a 36-hole record and taking a two shot lead into the final day of the three day event.  It was setting up to be a record setting boat race to the finish.

Final round partners to Palmer and Hoffman was QBE Shootout rookies Sahith Theegala and Tom Hoge.  They sat in second place but only two shots back with plenty of opportunity to steal the victory.  The final round saw a front nine that allowed Theegala and Hoge get back into contention as they made four birdies to the leaders three birdies and a rare bogey.  The back nine started with both teams tied at 28 under par.  Both teams exchanging birdies every hole.  It all came down to the 18th.  All four players hit approaches to within 15 feet of the hole.  Sahith Theegala was the lone player to make his putt and secure the victory for his team.

This win will give Sahith Theegala and Tom Hoge significant exemptions on the PGA Tour for 2023.  The PGA Tour will take a hiatus until the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii the first week of January.
