The Srixon ZXi RKT hybrid is a versatile, controllable, and reliable club from nearly any lie or course condition.ย Extensive and easy adjustability are infused into a clean and modern looking design.ย A weak metallic sound at impact is disappointing given the shot-making capabilities of this weapon.
Introduction
“Fairway wood versus hybrid” is a topic lighting up discussion boards recently as more fairway woods continue to pop-up on professional tours.ย Fairway wood proponents tout the clubโs towering ball flight and distance.ย Hybrid fans favor the clubโs increased control and versatility, even from challenging lies.
As part of Srixonโs new ZXi RKT family, the Srixon ZXi RKT hybrid was reengineered with upgraded face technology, compact shaping, and increased adjustability. ย As I game a TaylorMade Stealth 2 7-wood [review HERE], I was excited to put the new tech in the Srixon ZXi RKT hybrid through its paces to see how it compares, and if it provides advantages that might knock the wood out of the bag.ย For testing, I used the Srixon ZXi RKT 4 hybrid at 22ยฐ paired with the stock Mitsubishi MMT HYB 80S shaft.

Looks
Ensuring a cohesive look to the line, the excellent design language of Srixonโs ZXi RKT family seen in the new drivers (MAX review HERE, Core review HERE, and LS review HERE) is continued into the Srixon ZXi RKT hybrid with use of matte, satin, and gloss finishes, an angular center shape, clean outlined and solid silver branding, and a subtle pop of red on the removable weight situated near the face.ย The Srixon ZXi RKT hybridโs refined but technical look is modern without being flashy.
The sole design is reflected in the stock headcover with carbon fiber texturing on one side and a double line triangle design on the other that flank the silver embroidered ZXi and shiny solid silver RKT branding on the black headcoverโs center panel.ย The white embroidery comprising the Srixon logo and 4H designation on the top of the headcover has a 3D effect with its thickly stacked embroidery that gives a premium first impression of the club.
At address, the Srixon ZXi RKT hybrid looks incredibly similar to the Srixon ZXi hybrid [review HERE].ย They share a matte black crown to reduce glare, pear shaping, and a deep square face.ย The triangle design marking the center of the face has been replaced by a small dark gray Srixon logo. ย The presentation is focused and confidence inspiring.
An exception to the design language of the ZXi RKT line is the solid black RKT Face with six parallel grooves that differs from the silver graphic application on the Srixon ZXi RKT drivers. [See Price / Buy]
Sound & Feel
Thereโs a long list of things the Srixon ZXi RKT hybrid does well.ย Unfortunately, sound doesnโt make that list.ย As solid and confidence inspiring as it is, the weak metallic โdinkโ produced at impact is much thinner than expected given Srixonโs emphasis on sound engineering in the RKT family.ย It’s a significant departure from the powerful sound the ACOUSTICORE technology produces in the Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver.
A slightly disconnected feel is a byproduct of the dull sound, yet a fast sensation is still felt as the ball instantly jumps off the face at impact.ย Mishits are less penal than Iโm accustomed to with my fairway wood, but a relatively consistent feel across the face disguised mishits which sometimes left me guessing as I work on improving ball striking.ย Regardless where on the face the ball is struck, impact feels instantaneous.
Performance
While the Srixon ZXi RKT hybrid comes up short on sound, its performance certainly does not.ย The Srixon ZXi RKT hybrid is impressive in its versatility, control, and the ease in which it handles difficult lies.
Like the ZXi RKT driver family, new technology is introduced into the Srixon ZXi RKT hybrid thatโs designed to improve speed and forgiveness.ย Srixon boasts its new RKT Face with an i-FLEX face thickness pattern and Rebound Frame better transfer energy into the strike, while the Variable Roll Design improves shot accuracy.ย Although I canโt quantify the impact of each individual technology, the results were shockingly tight dispersion patterns on the range and a consistent ability to effectively navigate the ball out of trouble on the course.ย Distance is fair, not exceptional.ย Consistency and versatility are where the Srixon ZXi RKT hybrid shines.
First incorporated into the ZXi hybrid, the Srixon ZXi RKT hybrid utilizes an adjustable hosel sleeve that delivers 12 different loft, lie, and face positions providing opportunity to dial in the perfect combination for each golfer’s delivery and preferred ball flight.ย The Srixon ZXi RKT hybrid also includes a single adjustable sole weight.ย A 10g weight comes stock, but Srixon offers weights from 2g to 16g for purchase so the club’s swingweight can be easily adjusted to promote optimal stability and consistency.
I started carrying a 7-wood to better hold greens when attacking from distance.ย The catch is, it becomes much less useful when trying to flight shots under trees, and the ball tends to balloon when hitting into the wind.ย The Srixon ZXi RKT hybrid produces a more penetrating flight and a lower peak height which was huge when navigating my home track thatโs littered with trees (Iโm convinced they have magnets in them to attract my ball).
Another drawback of fairway woods is theyโre often unreliable from thicker rough and odd lies.ย The more compact head of the Srixon ZXi RKT hybrid measures ~2 5/8โ front to back, nearly an inch shorter than my fairway wood.ย Along with its slightly taller 1 ยฝโ face, it allows the Srixon ZXi RKT hybrid to easily cut through any lie, making it an absolute go-to recovery club.ย Recovery shots actually became an exciting opportunity for creative shot making, rather than a fear inducing endeavor. Conclusion
The Srixon ZXi RKT hybrid has fairway woods chattering with fear in their headcovers.ย Its top-tier versatility, superb accuracy and dispersion, and knack for escaping difficult lies, make it a must-try for golfers prioritizing control and shot making over peak height and distance.ย Although I prefer the snappy crack of my fairway wood, the versatility and adjustability the Srixon ZXi RKT hybrid brings to my bag is impossible to ignore.ย While this isnโt the club for maximum distance from fairway to green, the Srixon ZXi RKT hybrid is an absolute artist in getting out of trouble. The all-new ZXi RKT Hybrids are built on the same advanced ball speed platform as the Drivers, powered by the new RKT Face. For the first time, an Adjustable Sole Weight and Adjustable Hosel Sleeve work together as one system, allowing precise calibration of swing weight and distance gapping to fit your game.
