The Srixon ZXi RKT MAX driver is extremely consistent.  Strong ball speed.  High spin and launch.  Redesigned face helps to keep off-center shots in the fairway.

Introduction

Of all the major OEMs, there may not be one that embodies the term “workmanlike” as much as Srixon.  Their players win on Tour every year.  Their clubs are among the best in the game by almost any objective measure.  And they don’t do hype…even when they try.

But hype sells in golf, so Srixon is going first in the 2027 release season, getting their new ZXi RKT woods on the shelves well before the calendar turns over.  I tested the Srixon ZXi RKT MAX driver to find out if this max forgiveness club can hoard the spotlight or if it’s going to get pushed into the background.

Looks

At address, there are some obvious differences between the new Srixon ZXi RKT MAX driver and the ZXi MAX [review HERE].  The RKT MAX has visible carbon fiber in the crown in place of the textured crown and an “S” alignment aid instead of the triangular shape.  Both are matte black, and lean slightly toward the heel.  The RKT MAX driver has a long, wide, shallow head, but the overall impression is pleasant to my eye because it’s well shaped.

In the bag, the Srixon ZXi RKT MAX driver shares some key characteristics with its predecessor.  The middle of the sole is a gloss black triangular shape with matte black on either side.  Srixon has dialed the branding down even further on the ZXi RKT MAX, pushing their brand name to the extreme toe and merely outlining the “ZXi”.  The single weight port sits quietly at the back of the head.

Finally, I’ll once again give Srixon credit for serving up a first tier stock headcover.  The silver “RKT” stands out on the black cover.  Different textures cover each side – carbon fiber on one, doubled triangles on the other – give it a ton of character without being too loud. [See Price / Buy]

Sound & Feel

As I expect from a driver in the max forgiveness category, the Srixon ZXi RKT MAX driver is louder than average.  It’s not deafening, no one is going to glare at you on the range, but there won’t be any question that you’re sending it.  The sound is metallic, mid-high pitched, and fairly robust.  Overall, it’s a powerful sound that I enjoyed.

The feel of impact is clearly secondary to the sound.  There’s no standout characteristic, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.  This is a feel that any golfer will like but probably not love.  It’s not too thin, not too heavy, not too fast, not too controlled.  Right down the middle.

Where the feel stands out more is in the feedback.  Despite the Srixon ZXi RKT MAX driver being very stable, it’s fairly easy to find the impact location.  You may not have pinpoint precision without paying careful attention, but you can easily distinguish a toe shot from a pure one.  This pairs with gentle audio feedback: the sound of a centered strike is more focused than the looser tone of a miss.

Performance

The Srixon ZXi RKT MAX driver is the company’s “highest MOI driver ever.”  That’s an attention-getter for me, given the quality of some of their previous offerings.  At the time of this writing, Srixon hasn’t published a specific MOI number, so I will assume it’s short of the vaunted 10K, but so are plenty of other killer drivers.

In my testing, that stability and predictability stood out from the first session.  The word “consistent” shows up repeatedly in my notes in reference to the ball speed, launch, and spin.  I also had more than a few shots off the heel and toe that merited individual notes because of how well they performed.

This performance is driven by a suite of Srixon’s technologies, including a new material: VR-Titanium, a proprietary alloy including silicon.  VR-Titanium is found through the club.  Tech that has carried forward from previous models include the i-FLEX face structure and Rebound Frame.  Finally, a new Variable Roll Design works to keep heel and toe shots closer to the centerline.

Srixon ZXi RKT MAX Driver Review review

In my testing, the Srixon ZXi RKT MAX driver was very good at keeping the ball in play, but it did favor the left side.  My sense is that there’s a slight draw bias built into the head, but it’s hard to disentangle the different factors: the shaft, the head, and the added loft (I tested a 10.5 degree head; I typically play 9 degrees of loft).  Ultimately, most of my shots were soft pulls or soft draws, and I found it fairly difficult to produce a cut.

The ball flight that I got from the ZXi RKT MAX was high and soft.  My launch angles were consistently high, and the spin was routinely over 3,000 RPM.  This is very high spin for me.  Would my numbers be closer to normal with a 9 degree head and a stiffer shaft?  Absolutely.  That said, I still think the Srixon ZXi RKT MAX driver is going to spin more than average for most players.  As always, it’s important to remember that higher spin is not inherently good or bad – it’s about getting the numbers to your optimal range.  What’s objectively good is that the launch and spin were extremely predictable.

Finally, the Srixon ZXi RKT MAX driver has an adjustable hosel and one adjustable weight at the back of the head.  A 14 gram weight comes stock.  Golfers can buy weights ranging from 2 grams to 16 grams direct from Srixon.  Changing the weight will alter the feel of the club (swing weight) and MOI as well as potentially altering the launch and spin characteristics.  Players who want to bias their driver for a draw or fade will find that ability in the core ZXi RKT driver [review HERE].  At the hosel, players can add or subtract 1.5 degrees of loft. Conclusion

If you’re searching for consistent, predictable performance off the tee, the Srixon ZXi RKT MAX driver is the newest contender that needs to be on your demo list.  The high MOI and face tech make this one of the more forgiving drivers currently on the market.  This won’t be a top choice for high spin players, but those that want or need a higher ball flight will love it.
