2022 John Deere Classic Recap

J.T. Poston Wins 2022 John Deere Classic

Silvis, IL – J.T. Poston (-21) won the 2022 John Deere Classic, beating X by X strokes.  It was his second career victory on the PGA Tour.  And he did it in wire-to-wire fashion after opening up with a flawless 62.  He finished up the week with rounds of 65, 67, and 69.  It was a logical conclusion to a string of strong finishes including a T2 at the Travelers Championship last week.  It also earned him a spot in the Open Championship field in two weeks.

Finishing behind Poston were Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Emiliano Grillo three strokes back at -18.  Grillo also earned a spot in the Open Championship thanks to his high finish.

Two strokes behind them T4 were Scott Stallings and newly minted tour pro Chris Gotterup.  Gotterup has had a strong start to life as a pro after winning nearly everything there was to win in college.

Despite being one of the PGA Tour’s weaker fields, there was plenty of quality golf played.  Other players who had strong performances included Denny McCarthy and Callum Tarren (T6, -16), and Maverick McNealy and Cam Davis (T8, -15).

Next week, the best players in the world will converge on the Renaissance Club in Scotland for the Genesis Scottish Open.  The tournament serves as a warm up to the following week’s Open Championship, which will be contested on the Old Course in St. Andrews.  Among the favorites for the Scottish are Matt Fitzpatrick, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, and Scottie Scheffler.  Those not competing in that field will play the Barbasol Championship.
