The TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes are designed for all day wear, on and off the course. Their zero-drop shaping, wide toe box and Cush insole makes for a very comfortable casual shoe. The weather resistant upper and surprisingly stable platform make them great on the golf course.
Introduction
TRUE Linkswear has grown to become a very popular premium golf shoe brand in recent years. Started by a golf pro and his caddie brother, they set out to create a golf shoe that they wanted to wear that seemed impossible to find on the market. Starting with the “O.G.” shoe, they’ve expanded to many other variants, but ultimately they have kept evolving their initial concept into the TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes.
By taking a recent stop in the OG evolution – the OG CUSH – and adding premium materials, the TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes claim to be so comfortable they can be worn all day on the golf course and casual enough to wear everywhere else. Pricing at $179 puts them just into the premium category so hopefully they bring something special to the table.
They certainly don’t look that complicated or high tech, so I was extremely curious about how TRUE Linkswear manages to make a shoe that excels at so many things while looking like a normal shoe. For that, I decided to test these TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes both on and off the course for a few days in a row. How would they fare all day long in the office and directly onto the golf course after work? I rarely wear a golf shoe for 12 hours straight so this would be a TRUE test, indeed.
Looks
The TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes are offered in both white and light gray. They have a familiar vintage-styled, athletic, low-top appearance with a few distinct touches of their own. The white pair has a splash of navy blue to give a bit more visual interest, but I like the gray as an all-day shoe.
I appreciate how with either color choice, the lower sole of the TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes match the upper – it seems so often that regardless of shoe color I often feel stuck with a bright white sole. A color-matched sole is a bit more business-casual ready. Underneath, the tread pattern made up of “T” shaped blocks scattered everywhere is only slightly beyond that of a casual shoe. They blend in as a normal shoe in any environment.
Despite being a pretty simple design, there are a few nice touches for visual interest sprinkled around the TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes. A contrast smooth material stripe angled on the sides, accompanied by a simple TRUE logo. The heel cup has a smooth leather material along the top and bottom, with a 3D emblem of the Dead Golfer Society emblem, which is a mainstay with TRUE footwear. They have nice quality laces that are also color matched.
These may not be the most exciting looking shoes in the world, but I think the styling works. The TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes are a great low-key everyday pair that don’t look like you are wearing golf shoes all day. My one observation in material choices is that the suede gets dirty quite easily with minor brush ups. I kept noticing this and tried to keep them clean. I like the duller suede appearance, but they don’t wipe up as easily as something a bit more slick would. [See Price / Buy]
Comfort
The first time I tried on my TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes, I giggled a bit. I was both shocked at how comfortable they seemed and also heavily doubted that they would work as a golf shoe. If you’ve ever worn a pair of the extremely popular Hey Dude fabric loafers, you’ll get the basic idea. While not quite that airy and light, the TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes weigh half of what you’d expect. They also don’t carry much weight in the sole, so your feet feel totally unencumbered while walking.
The sensation I noticed right away while wearing the TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes was the separation that is given across the various sections of the sole. TRUE calls these FLEX GROOVES, which bend easily and naturally as you walk. It’s slightly odd for the first few steps but disappears soon after. They have “Engineered for Natural Movement” along the channel, and truly serve as a fatigue reducing measure. It is remarkable the difference this makes with such a seemingly simple feature built into the sole.
The TRUE linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes also boast a wide toe-box, which is something I absolutely appreciate. They actually felt wider than most wide-fit shoes I buy – I was initially worried about the extra room. Thankfully, once snug, the shoes held me tight, and I experienced zero shift during my golf swing.
The Cush sole is slightly spongey without feeling like a marshmallow – not an easy feat. The TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes feature soles that are “zero-drop” making a relatively flat platform to stand on (as opposed to a slightly higher heel that puts you a bit more on your toes). This shaping was very comfortable and natural over time. At the end of a long day I had zero fatigue.
The microsuede-like material used in the upper portion of the TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes is listed as weather resistant, and as you’d expect don’t breathe quite as well as something that offers no moisture protection. That said, I do often suffer from a feeling of hot feet, and after a 12 hour day at the office followed by 18 holes in near 80 degree temperature, I never felt too warm in them. Combined with a very soft cushioned edge around the ankles, this was truly a great shoe to wear all day long.
Performance
There is a lot to consider here, because I feel that since the TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes are attempting to cover two roles in one, they should be evaluated in both scenarios.
As a day-to-day casual shoe, they absolutely excel. Their comfort translated to a shoe that works well in any normal situation. Whether sitting at my desk, standing on hard flooring or walking around all day, my feet never felt fatigue or discomfort. I have a few pairs of casual shoes that might be slightly more comfortable, but the TRUE linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes beat most.
On the golf course, they were similarly good but not quite perfect. I was shocked how stable the TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes were given the low-restrictive nature of their fit. Even playing a rolling links course without a flat lie anywhere to be seen, I felt extremely stable. This was quite impressive given the unassuming appearance of these shoes.
The only gripe I have, was that I felt the traction offered by the soft spike “T” patterning was just satisfactory. I am a pretty devout user of soft spike shoes and very few spikeless shoes have changed my mind. The TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes were no different. I had a handful of moments where my feet would lose traction, and it would directly affect my swing and shot. This is how just about all spikeless shoes behave for me, so I would only say the OG Cush Premium is average amongst them for traction.
Beyond that, I was unable to give the water resistance a proper test, but the way that the TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes are designed with an all-in-one design that keeps the tongue seamless with the main outer suggests it will keep me dry in minor weather. These results make them a very solid choice in the spikeless shoe market. [See Price / Buy]
Conclusion
The TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes are a true jack of all trades, master of none product. However, this is entirely by design. While I do own a few pairs of shoes that are slightly more comfortable to wear to work, none of them belong anywhere near a golf course. Likewise, I have never had a pair of golf shoes that function equal or better than these on the course that I’d remotely consider wearing all day off the course.
For anyone who already likes to use spikeless golf shoes, the TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium golf shoes are an absolute winner. They offer a shocking degree of support and functionality playing golf for something that blends in with normal usage and all day comfort. You don’t even need golf on your day’s itinerary to wear them, they look that normal.
For me, the TRUE Linkswear OG Cush Premium won’t become my main/go-to golf shoes. When I can plan ahead, I’ll always prefer the performance from a spiked shoe. However I do plan to put them in my casual rotation, making impromptu range sessions or a last minute round of golf booking much easier to accomplish. Jack of all trades indeed. [See Price / Buy]
