For much of the country, the golf season is slowly coming to an end. For some, things are just getting started. Regardless of which side of that coin you find yourself on, it’s a great time to check in with your equipment. Nippon Shaft and their network of fitters are promoting that idea with their annual N.S.PRO MODUS³ Month throughout November.

Spotlight on N.S.PRO MODUS³ TOUR130
This particular November, Nippon Shaft is putting the focus on the N.S.PRO MODUS³ TOUR130. The heaviest member of the N.S.PRO MODUS³ family, it’s also the most misunderstood. While this is built for the stronger, more aggressive player, Nippon Shaft did much more than make a heavier, stiffer version of what they’d already done. The N.S.PRO MODUS³ TOUR130 features a unique profile with a stiff butt section, responsive tip, and “one of the stiffest mid-section in the steel shaft industry.”
From a feel perspective, the N.S.PRO MODUS³ TOUR130 is certainly unique among heavy weight shafts. All other iron shafts in this weight class are really stiff. Swinging them is a lot of work, and you can’t expect the shaft to do anything for you. With the N.S.PRO MODUS³ TOUR130, there’s ample stability, but you also get a little action from the shaft. That softer tip section provides just enough life that you don’t feel like you’re swinging a piece of rebar.
The N.S.PRO MODUS³ TOUR130 is also unique in performance. All other heavy iron shafts are low launch, low spin. The TOUR130 keeps the spin low but adds in higher launch than its peers. It’s not going to launch the ball to the moon, but it provides a slight trajectory bump which can be very helpful in the mid and long irons.

While the focus is on TOUR130 this November, the Modus family offers a wide variety of weights and profiles. The 5 Series – the TOUR105, TOUR115, and TOUR125 – offers a prototypical Tour-style iron shaft in a variety of weights. I’ve been gaming the TOUR115 for over a decade without any plans to change.
The 0 Series, which includes the aforementioned TOUR130, has more novel profiles that still offer players ample control and Tour-style shaft weights.
