St. Simons Island, GA – Ludvig Åberg has won the 2023 RSM Classic. Shooting a score of 29-under par, this marks his first PGA Tour win. This title also means that he becomes the 11th Swedish-born winner on tour. Along with winning the title, Åberg also earned over $1.5 million in prize money.
It was only a matter of time until Åberg’s first tour win because he has had great success at every level of golf he’s played at. Despite only turning professional in June of 2023, he has already put together an incredible resume. He was a part of this year’s winning European Ryder Cup team and earned a DP World Tour title at the Omega European Masters.
This week, like for most of his career, his driver has led him to success. He’s known to be one of the longest, most accurate drivers of the golf ball that exists. In practice, that strength was how he was able to comfortably drive the green on an over 400-yard par 4 twice this week. He was particularly dominant on the weekend, shooting two separate 61s on both Saturday and Sunday to put the tournament out of reach for the rest of the field.
The only player who had any kind of a shot to catch up with the Swede was the Canadian-born Mackenzie Hughes. Hughes was only one shot off from a 59 on Saturday and followed up with a strong performance on Sunday with a score of 63. He would finish in solo second, with a score of 25-under par.
The next event on the PGA Tour is a special one, the Sentry Tournament of Champions. Taking place in Hawaii, it’s an invitational where you can only play if you’ve won a tournament in the last year or if you had made it to the Tour Championship. Jon Rahm is the defending champion from last year but even for him, facing off against a field of winners will be an extremely difficult challenge for him to repeat his winning feat.

Dude has a beautiful swing. Interesting that he plays the TSR2 instead of the 3.
