2022 Cadence Bank Houston Open Recap

Houston, Texas – For the third victory in his past seven starts, Tony Finau is the 2022 Cadence Bank Houston Open Champion.  Tony was able to cruise to victory in his fifth PGA Tour win but first win during the fall schedule.

The 2022 Cadence Bank Houston Open is played at Memorial Park Golf Course, a public municipal golf course deep in the heart of the city.  While it isn’t a particularly difficult course, the tree lined fairways place a premium on driving accuracy.  This is a strong part of Tony Finau’s game and a large part of why he was victorious.

Tony opened his week with three strong rounds of 65, 62, and 68 and spotting himself a healthy lead.  His final round of 69 was his highest score of the week but after getting it to 19 under par and a seven shot lead, it was all but over.  The front nine Sunday was looking like a boat race as Tony didn’t make a mistake with 4 birdies and zero bogeys.  He came back to Earth making three bogeys on the back but with such a massive lead, it didn’t make a difference.

2022 Korn Ferry Tour graduate and PGA Tour rookie Tyson Alexander was the nearest competitor who gave Tony a run for his money as he finished 2nd with a 12 under total.  Fellow tour rookie and England born player Ben Taylor followed close behind Alexander carding an 11 under par for the week.  Neither stood a chance against a surging Finau but look for both of these players to make some noise in 2023.

Next week, the PGA Tour heads down to the golden coast for RSM Classic at Sea Island.
