2022 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Recap

Tom Hoge Earns First Career Win at Pebble Beach

Pebble Beach, CA – Tom Hoge (-19) won his first career PGA Tour event at the 2022 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.  The 32-year-old North Dakotan has been a mainstay on tour for years and has been quietly having one of the best years of his career, finishing solo second at the American Express a few weeks back.  He outlasted Jordan Spieth and several others, carding a Sunday 68, going -4 and bogey-free on his back nine.

Hoge started the day tied for the lead with Andrew Putnam and Beau Hossler.  After his dramatic Saturday 63, Jordan Spieth (-17) emerged as one of the favorites to win Sunday, leading or tying for the lead multiple times during the round.  In the end, a bogey on 17 cost him an opportunity to realistically have a shot at tying the lead.  As it turned out, Hoge bested him by two strokes.

Finishing one stroke behind Spieth in solo third was Beau Hossler.  Hossler, one of the most promising amateurs in recent memory, has never really broken through since turning pro and hasn’t had much success this year either.  This finish shows that he may be ready to turn the corner.  Finishing T4 one back of Hossler was Troy Merritt and Patrick Cantlay.

Other players with notable performances included Seamus Power, who started the week by continuing his red hot form with back-to-back rounds of 64 before shooting 74-72 on the weekend and finishing T9 at-13; Andrew Putnam, who started the final round tied for the lead but struggled, shooting 73 and finishing T6 at -14; and Matt Fitzpatrick, also T6, who was the only player other than Hoge to shoot all four rounds in the 60’s.

Next week, the PGA Tour heads to the desert for one of the more memorable weekends in sports.  The WM Phoenix Open is the appetizer before the Super Bowl and Brooks Koepka will defend his title against a field that includes Jon Rahm, Patrick Cantlay, Viktor Hovland, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama, and Xander Schauffele.
