2021 John Deere Classic Recap

Lucas Glover Wins 2021 John Deere Classic

Silvis, IL –  Lucas Glover (-19) came out on top Sunday to win the 2021 John Deere Classic.  The victory marks the 41-year-old American’s fourth PGA Tour win and first since the 2011 Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow.  Glover had been playing well as of late, carding three top 10 finishes in the 2021 season, prior to the win.

Glover wasn’t the only one making birdies this week at TPC Deere Run.  His 64, low round of the day, was enough to get him to the finish line two strokes ahead of Ryan Moore and Kevin Na who both shot 68 and made a couple of costly bogeys during their final rounds.  At one point there were 25 players within three strokes of the lead.

Four players ended up T4, one back of Na and Moore at -16.  Adam Schenk, Luke List, Scott Brown, and Sebastian Munoz took different routes to end up in the same place.  Of the four, Munoz will feel least satisfied with the result.  The Colombian has been in strong form lately and found himself leading the tournament heading into the final round after going 63-67-67.  However, he could not keep it up and shot 71 to take himself out of contention.

Other players who had notable performances included Hank Lebioda, who has gone from a perennial cut-line battler to contender in recent weeks, finishing T8 at -15; Cameron Champ was in position to contend on Sunday but shot 71 and ended T11 at -14; Chez Reavie opened with 64 and steadily declined each day, ending also with 71 and a T18 finish at -13.

Next week, the many of the world’s top players will cross the pond to Sandwich, England to contest the Open Championship at Royal St. George’s.  Betting favorites there include recent U.S. Open champ Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, and Jordan Spieth.  There is also an opposite field event on the PGA Tour, the Barbasol Championship.  The field includes Luke List, Charl Schwartzel, and newly minted pros John Pak and Davis Thompson.
