2022 ZOZO Championship Recap

Keegan Bradley Back in the Winners’ Circle at ZOZO

Inzai City, Japan – Keegan Bradley (-15) won the 2022 ZOZO Championship.  He beat out Rickie Fowler by one stroke.  It was Bradley’s first win on Tour in four years.  Though halfway around the world, Bradley seems at home at Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club.  He performed well there last year too, finishing T7 after a final round 65.

This year, Bradley looked a good bet to win from the opening round.  He fired rounds of 66, 65, 66, and 68 to get the job done ahead of a resurgent Rickie Fowler.  Fowler, who has his own drought to contend with, was leading Bradley by one going into the final round.  His final round 70 wasn’t enough to close the deal.  Andrew Putnam, who played in the final group with Fowler and Bradley, finished T2 with Fowler at -14.

Finishing one stroke behind them was Emiliano Grillo.  Hayden Buckley, Sahith Theegala, and Viktor Hovland finished in a share of fifth one behind Grillo at -12.

Other players who had notable performances included Cameron Champ, who played well on a tough golf course and finished in solo 8th at -11; Keita Nakajima, the former world number one amateur and recently minted pro played well in his home country, finishing T12 and -9; and PGA Tour rookie Taylor Moore continued to be a top 25 machine, also finishing T12.

Next week, the PGA Tour heads back stateside for the CJ Cup in South Carolina, which will be hosted at Congaree.  Rory McIlroy is the defending champion (last year’s iteration was hosted at Summit Club in Las Vegas) and will defend against a field that includes Scottie Scheffler, Sungjae Im, Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, Hideki Matsuyama, and Jordan Spieth.
