Bryson DeChambeau Wins at Bay Hill
Orlando, FL – Bryson DeChambeau (-11) edged out Lee Westwood by one stroke to win the 2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational. Bryson made headlines earlier in the week by driving the par 5 sixth across the lake but it was his all-around game that earned him the win. Bryson’s final round 71 was one of only three under par rounds on the day. The win marks the eighth PGA Tour victory of his career.
Lee Westwood was also incredibly impressive and came up just short of his third career PGA Tour victory. The 47-year-old Englishman has been enjoying a career renaissance as of late and his solid play in tough conditions showed that he can still compete with the game’s best.
Conditions were challenging all week and in the end only the top two finishers were able to get to double digits under par. Corey Conners finished in solo third two strokes back of Westwood at -8. Andrew Putnam, Richy Werenski, and Jordan Spieth finished T4 two strokes back of Conners.
Other players who had notable performances included Rory McIlroy, who was in the mix just two back heading into the weekend but faded to finish in a group of 8 players T10 at -3; Will Zalatoris, Max Homa, and Matthew Fitzpatrick were also in that group; South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout plays primarily on the European Tour but carded his best PGA Tour finish yet with a solo seventh at -5.
Next week, the PGA Tour heads to TPC Sawgrass for the Players Championship. Last year’s edition was cut short after one round due to the pandemic. All of the world’s top players are scheduled to tee it up.
