Marc Leishman Gets the Win at Torrey Pines

La Jolla, CA – Marc Leishman (-15) made in two wins in a row for Aussies on the PGA Tour Sunday afternoon at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. Leishman shot 65 on Sunday to come from behind and win was his fifth event on the PGA Tour and first since the 2018 CIMB Classic.

Leishman beat arguably the strongest field of the year thus far, as players like Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Jordan Spieth all made their PGA Tour debuts for the 2020 season. The golf course also made a debut of sorts with the extensive changes to the North course by Rees Jones being revealed. Though the South is still the tougher test, the North showed a bit more teeth than players have grown used to.

Finishing in solo second behind Leishman was Jon Rahm. Rahm entered the final round with a one shot lead over Ryan Palmer, with Leishman four back. After going out in 39, Rahm made a charge on the back nine and found himself was an eagle putt to force a playoff that was virtually identical to the one he made to win the tournament in 2017. The putt came up just short and Rahm finished one back.

Other players who put in notable performances included Brandt Snedeker and Rory McIlroy who finished T3 at -12; Tom Hoge finished solo fifth at -11; and Bubba Watson, Tony Finau, and Patrick Reed finished T6 at -10.

Next week, the PGA Tour heads to the Arizona desert for what has become the wildest week in golf: The Waste Management Phoenix Open. Rickie Fowler will defend his title against a field that includes Jordan Spieth, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, and two-time winner Hideki Matsuyama.
