Greensboro, NC – Lucas Glover has won the 2023 Wyndham Championship. This marks his fifth career PGA win, and first tour win since the 2021 John Deere Classic. His latest victory now catapults him into the 49th overall spot in the FedEx Cup points standings.
Following a few hours-long rain delay, Glover finished his final round with a win as a rainbow appeared behind him. While there was no pot of gold, he did happen to find $1.36 million in prize money.
For Glover, the difference was his putter. Known to struggle with putting issues, a recent switch to the L.A.B. Mezz broomstick putter caused some dramatic gains for him. It made such a big difference in fact, that he went from a season average ranking 181st to the 16th best in strokes gained putting on the week.
Glover wasn’t the only player who found success using the L.A.B. putters this week either. Byeong Hun An would finish tied for second place and Adam Scott would finish in a tie for seventh for the tournament. Despite that placement though, Scott, Justin Thomas, and several other notables won’t be playing next week. That’s because only the top 70 FedEx Cup points holders are eligible to play in the first round of the playoffs.
The next PGA Tour event will be the FedEx St. Jude Championship. There, in Memphis Tennessee, last year’s winner Will Zalatoris will be missing due to his ongoing recovery from back surgery. There will be no shortage of players looking to claim his title, however, and ultimately then look to win the FedEx Cup itself in just a few weeks.
