Augusta, Ga – Defying all odds, Tiger Woods has won the 2019 Masters Tournament and donned his 5th green jacket Sunday afternoon in Augusta, Georgia.  There were plenty of headlines that broke during the years first major championship but Tiger winning may have capped one of the greatest masters weeks of all time.

The inaugural Augusta Women’s Amateur Tournament became an overnight sensation a week before the Masters began as the world tuned in to see the ladies make history and try their hand at Amen Corner.  Jennifer Kupcho went 5-under par in her last 6 holes at ANGC including an eagle at 13 to beat out María Fassi and claim the victory.  Sunday then brought the annual drive, chip, and putt as dozens of kids took center stage on the grandest stage.

Masters week was off to a great start.  Day one and two both saw some low scores as the 36-hole leaderboard was bunched at the top.  So much so that the cut was the largest it has ever been in Masters history.  3-time major champion Brooks Koepka found himself with a share of lead early.  A host of non-major winners also found themself at the top of the leaderboard.  Dustin Johnson, Bryson Dechambeau, and Matt Kuchar all were in the mix.

Many selected Rickie Fowler to pull out a win as he’s had so many close calls at Augusta, most recently finishing 2nd in 2018.  On Saturday, he carded a solid 68.  Reigning Open Champion Francesco Molinari finished Saturday with a bogey-free 66 giving him the 54-hole lead while Tony Finau gained a spot in the final pairing Sunday with an 8-under 64.

Sunday brought a new challenge to players as weather forced an early start with split tees.  The last group of Molinari, Woods, and Finau would begin at 9:20am.

Tiger and Tony would trail Francesco for most of the day until they came to the par-3 12th when both Molinari and Finau would put one in Rae’s Creek.  In an instant, everything changed.  Tiger found himself tied for the lead along with Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and Xander Schauffele.  After birdieing 13, 15, and 16, Tiger separated himself from the pack and had the tournament in his grip.  Koepka had a birdie putt on 18 to tie Woods to force a playoff, but misread it.  So, even with a bogey at the last, it was enough.  He finally did it.  Breaking through for his 15th major victory and 81st career win.  Tiger has won the 2019 Masters.
