Rafael Campos Wins First Career PGA Tour Event
Southampton, Bermuda – Rafael Campos (-19) won the 2024 Butterfield Bermuda Championship, earning his first career PGA Tour win and cementing his status on the Tour for the next two years. He beat out Andrew Novak (-16) by three strokes. Campos began the final round tied for the lead with Novak and one stroke ahead of Justin Lower.
The win may not garner the kinds of headlines made by the likes of the top 10 players in the world. But none of those players were present this week. While he may not excite the casual observer, Campos has a story that anyone can get behind. The 36-year-old Puerto Rican has been pro since 2011 and has been fighting to make cuts and maintain status more often than he has contended for victories. With a 7-day-old child at home, he was able to strike while the iron is hot, earning job security for himself and his family in the process.
Finishing one stroke behind Novak in a tie for third were Adrien Dumont de Chassart and Mark Hubbard. While Hubbard is a proven veteran who has had plenty of success over the last few years, Dumont de Chassart is a young promising player out of Belgium who has struggled since turning pro last year. He will enjoy the confidence (and points) boost heading into the PGA Tour season proper.
Other players who had notable finishes in this, the penultimate event in the FedEx Fall schedule, included Vince Whaley, Sam Ryder, and the aforementioned Justin Lower (T5, -14). Lower will be disappointed with his final round 72 after contending for a second week in a row. Ben Griffin finished in solo eighth at -13 and Greyson Sigg, David Lipsky, and Patrick Rodgers finished T9 one behind him.
Next week, the PGA Tour heads to Sea Island, Georgia for the RSM Classic. Ludvig Aberg is the defending champion there and will contend against a field that includes the likes of Si Woo Kim, Chris Kirk, Davis Thompson, and Davis Love III.
