2023 Valspar Championship Recap

Taylor Moore Wins 2023 Valspar Championship

Palm Harbor, FL – Taylor Moore (-10) won the 2023 Valspar Championship.  He came from two shots behind the lead to win with a round of 67.  It was his first career PGA Tour victory. Finishing behind Moore was Adam Schenk (-9) and Jordan Spieth and Tommy Fleetwood (both -8).

There was plenty of drama in the final round, thanks in part to a golf course that doesn’t yield a ton of birdies and has bogeys lurking all over.  Schenk putted lights out and looked primed to win until he hooked his 72nd tee shot and ended up stymied by a tree.  His bid to force a play off lipped out.  Spieth looked ready to take it himself until he put his 16th tee shot in the water.

This tournament holds happy memories for Spieth.  In 2013, he earned his PGA Tour card there and two years later he won his second career PGA Tour event there.  Even though he didn’t win, it’s clearly still a happy hunting ground for him.

Other players who had notable weeks included Wyndham Clark (-6, solo fifth); Sam Burns, who won the event in the past two years (-5, solo sixth); and Justin Thomas (T10, -3).

Next week, the top players in the world will head to Austin for what seems to be the final iteration of the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, where Scottie Scheffler is the defending champion.  Many of those not in the field there will head to the Dominican Republic for the Corales Puntacana Championship, where the defending champion is Chad Ramey.
