San Diego, CA — Luke List has won the 2022 Farmer’s Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. After the second playoff of the year, List defeated the young up-and-comer Will Zalatoris to secure his first PGA Tour win in his 206th start. With this win, he takes home over $1.5 million in prize money.
The 37-year-old pro not only had to wait years for this win but also had to wait quite a while on Saturday to secure it as well. Coming from behind, he shot a 66 with seven birdies during his final round, finishing at 15-under for the tournament. He then waited for two hours as the rest of the players finished their final round (including Zalatoris who would also finish at 15-under-par). After that long wait, he’d go on to make quick work of Zalatoris as he put his third shot on the 18th hole to just one foot, making the subsequent birdie putt.
A number of other players also had their shot at winning the tournament, the closest being a trio of players who finished tied for third: Jason Day, Jon Rahm, and Cameron Tringale. Those three were just one shot behind the top two at 14-under-par. Rahm, who had won at this course just last year when the U.S. Open was being held there, missed out on a playoff bout when he missed a birdie putt on the last hole. While Day pitched in for eagle, and at one point looked primed to win, back-to-back bogeys on 16 and 17 ultimately cost him his shot at the playoff.
The next PGA Tour event on the docket is the fan-favorite AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am where the best professionals play alongside movie stars, musicians, and other sports icons. Expect to see the likes of Bill Murray, Larry Fitzgerald, Don Cheadle, Josh Allen, Macklemore, and many others.
