The 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge Recap review

Fort Worth, Texas – The dream season continues for Sam Burns as he overcomes a seven shot deficit to win his third victory this year at the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge. ย Sam began the final round seven shots back of Masters Champion and the world number one Scottie Sheffler before closing the gap and forcing a playoff late Sunday afternoon.

Donโ€™t let the scores this week fool you. The conditions this week at Colonial Country Club were anything but easy. ย With 30mph gusts on Saturday, only two players managed bogey free rounds. ย The 54-hole leader Scottie Sheffler 3-putted the 17th green for his only bogey of the day. ย Last weekโ€™s PGA Champion Justin Thomas along with the runner up Will Zalatoris both missed the cut this week.

Davis Reilly is another name you may have not heard of but heโ€™s another rookie looking to make a name for himself in 2022. ย Davis actually grabbed the solo lead at Colonial on the back nine on Sunday before going plus four in his final 6 holes.

Nonetheless, the Sunday before Memorial Day was all about Sam Burns. ย It isnโ€™t often that a player can come from behind by seven shots to win on the PGA Tour. ย The fields are too deep and too talented. ย So on a day that the scoring average was 3 over par, Sam Burns managed to shoot a final round 65, including 7 birdies. ย This forced a playoff with the 54-hole leader – Scottie Sheffler. ย Scottie managed to not make any birdies in his final round to go along with two bogeys. ย A surprisingly poor final round by the golfer who has typically not had any recent issue closing out golf tournaments. ย Ultimately, Sam was able to drain a 40 foot birdie putt just off the green on the first playoff hole to overcome Sheffler.

This is Samโ€™s third PGA Tour victory this season and fourth win over the past year.
