Longball aims to make apparel that meets the needs of the golf lifestyle on and off the course and the Spring Summer 2017 lineup does this perfectly.
Introduction
I know not everyone is like me, but my daily commute tells me I’m very much not alone. I’ve passed that phase of your life where my closet had “regular clothes” and “golf clothes” to one where it’s all just “clothes.” What I’ve found in the past five years is that I wear the same clothes to work that I wear when I play golf.
Thankfully Canadian brewed Longball came into my life last year and has been a staple for me since. Longball’s 2017 Spring Summer lineup provides great options for going to work, heading to the course for a quick 18, and grabbing drinks with your friends after.
Performance
Longball golf apparel excels in two primary areas. The first is arguably the most important – on-course performance and functionality. Like previous Longball lines, the Spring Summer 2017 lineup is comfortable and nonrestrictive. I was able to comfortably swing a club and not feel any tugging or hindrance in my movement in both shirts. The Transatlantic jacket is a heavier jacket but will perform fine with the right fit.
Longball’s other performance strength comes from the materials they use in their shirts. Moisture-wicking and anti-microbial are all the rage right now because people want be comfortable and don’t want to stink. According to Longball, theirs is “a custom performance fabric with the perfect blend of Bamboo Charcoal, making it naturally anti-bacterial and odor eliminating. Wear it in the most extreme weather, causally, or on Sunday-Funday, they won’t let you down.” From my experiences, this holds true and makes a big difference on a 100ºF summer day in Chicago whether on the course or walking to the office.
Style & Fit
My last Longball review spoke to a “truly Canadian athletic fit” which allows a little room for a thicker build while still giving a streamlined look. While I feel the current lineup is more generous than a lot of the industry, I find it to be more fitted than my previous Longball apparel. The shirts have enough length to stay tucked in, but it’s worth noting you may experience a slight difference this season.
The Longball style caters to most lifestyle needs. The Notch shirt (the purple and grey polos pictured) has become a staple in my wardrobe. It looks good without making a dramatic statement, and I feel good wearing it. The Range polos (blue/grey and red) are a good nod to previous styles that put Longball on the map. Like the Notch polos, the Transatlantic jacket and Buffer track jacket have also become staples for me as the ups and downs of Chicago’s fall have set in. A nice little touch in the Buffer is the optional spandex cuff with thumb holes. Keep in mind, both of these jackets are very warm and may work better in the cooler months.
Conclusion
Admittedly, clothing is a very subjective topic. It has to mesh with your personal tastes and preferences, and those are different for all of us. What you can’t argue with is the practicality of Longball‘s clothing. The Notch polo shirt and Buffer jacket have been perfect for almost any occasion in my everyday life and they’ve transitioned just as well to the course. In my last review I said, “now that Longball is on my radar I am certainly going to be paying close attention to what’s in store for them.” Well I’m glad I have because they continue to impress me with their versatile clothing.
