Toulon Golf Announces Latest Small Batch Release Palo Alto
VISTA, CA – Toulon Golf, the maker of the most exquisite milled putters in the world, today officially announces our latest Small Batch putter — the Palo Alto.
About Palo Alto Small Batch — Honoring a True Innovator
In the creation of our latest Small Batch design our mission was to pay tribute to one of the game’s most accomplished players and one of its quietest innovators: Bob Rosburg.
Rosburg became a force in golf at a very young age. Born in San Francisco, he honed his skills at the famed Olympic Club. It was there that a 12-year-old Rosburg once beat the legendary — and often ornery — Ty Cobb in a match at the club, 7&6. Rosburg would go on to have an accomplished college career at Stanford — where he starred in both golf and baseball — and later was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame. From there he embarked on a celebrated professional career that included six PGA Tour wins, headlined by the 1959 PGA Championship.
His acclaim in the game of golf arguably reached its highest in his post playing career when he joined ABC as a broadcaster. Affably known as ‘Rossie,’ he spent more than three decades on air where he pioneered the role as a roving broadcaster walking the golf course with the competitors.
Today on tour, the world’s best players have access to state-of-the-art facilities on a weekly basis to work on their equipment and test combinations. In Rossie’s playing days most players had limited — if any — access to new equipment. Like many of his contemporaries, Rossie began tinkering with his own clubs, but at a level beyond most of his peers. Rosburg’s own study in equipment would lead to him eventually designing clubs for companies including MacGregor, Ram, Top Flite and others. But it was with the putter that Rosburg would really make his mark. Credited with being one of the first players on tour to consistently use a mallet style putter, he effectively normalized mallet designs and usage by the game’s best players — a trend that has reached its fever pitch in the modern game. Today, more players use mallet putters than traditional blades, a trend once considered unfathomable in Rossie’s era.
The Head
While the Palo Alto pays tribute to the original Rossie design, its name is also a nod to the region where so many innovations in fields beyond the game of golf began.
Using our favorite material for the body, 904L Stainless Steel, we knew this would have to be a multi-material design for us to accomplish our performance goals. In this case we decided to use 7075 Aluminum for the sole — saving precious grams of weight versus stainless steel and allowing us to create a compact mallet shape with maximum forgiveness. Saving the weight from the center of the sole also allowed us to design a thicker 904L face — bringing the center of gravity close to the face and improving both the acoustics of the design and enhancing the Palo Alto’s feel. The sound and feel of this putter is deep and pleasing.
With the center of gravity moved closer to the face, Palo Alto has similar toe flow to a traditional blade, attributable to our all-new H5 mini slant hosel. Looking at the face you’ll first notice the medium depth Spider Web pattern chosen for this piece. While striking in appearance, it also creates a wonderful sound and a crisp and satisfying feel. The face itself is also slightly deeper in the center, thanks to the slightly crowned shape of the top line. This allows for a more centered CG placement from top to bottom, further enhancing Palo Alto’s already wonderful feel.
A View from the Top
Close inspection of the top surfaces will reveal the Palo Alto’s magnificent milling lines. More aggressive lines are prominent on the curved heel and toe surfaces that yield to a more subtle pattern in the middle. With Palo Alto, the closer you look the more you see.
The Sole
The sole is adorned with four engraved redwood trees that Palo Alto and Stanford University are known for. At the base of the first two trees we’ve engraved a simple BR 1959 as a tribute to Rossie’s 1959 PGA Championship victory at Minneapolis Golf Club. The beautifully milled 7075 aircraft aluminum sole plate is then hard anodized in a Brilliant Black finish. The end result is a simple yet intricate version of a classic putter. Palo Alto is milled to perfection and ready for play.
The Finishing Touches
Palo Alto is finished with our beautiful Midnight Blue PVD over the Black Anodized aluminum sole. A simple and elegant white paint fill with a light touch of metallic Vivid Blue keeps the look clean and pure. The putter is finished with our black stepless steel shaft and our custom Toulon Midsize Pistol grip in Dark Blue.
Palo Alto: A fitting tribute to a classic putter design and a legendary putter designer.

COBRA Golf™ Introduces New King Tec, King Tec-X, and King Tec-X One Length Irons
CARLSBAD, CA– COBRA Golf™, a leader in golf club innovation, today introduced the fifth generation KING TEC, KING TEC-X, and KING TEC-X ONE LENGTH Irons. Aimed at a wide variety of handicaps, the improved KING TEC lineup offers the ultimate combination of forged feel and looks, impressive distance, and enhanced forgiveness.
KING TEC IRONS
The new KING TEC irons, which are aimed at 0-12 handicaps looking for the ultimate player’s distance iron, feature newly refined shaping with a shortened blade length, softened topline, “tucked toe,”, and updated PW with a flattened topline and straighter leading edge. Improved feel is provided through a 5-step forged hollow clubhead construction and enhanced foam microspheres that fill the clubhead and dampen vibration for improved acoustics without sacrificing the feedback better players desire.
While other forged irons have traditionally used a four-step process, COBRA® utilizes a fifth forging strike to deliver unmatched soft feel and precise shaping. The forging process begins by heating carbon steel billets to 1200-degree Celsius. The billets are then Rough Forged three times (steps 1-3), a process in which the metal is bent and forged to form the rough shaping of an iron head. Step Four involves applying 1200 tons of pressure at 800-degrees Celsius to each rough clubhead, refining the shapes and placing detail lines and logos. During the final fifth step, each iron head is subjected to 2000 tons of pressure at 700-degrees Celsius, forming an extremely uniform grain structure. After cooling, each clubhead is polished and made ready for the faces and grooves to be precision milled using a CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) machine.
Built with a Forged PWRSHELL face insert with H.O.T Face Variable Thickness Geometry that is thinner and more robust, the new KING TEC irons produce more rebound for faster speed at impact and longer distance. For added forgiveness, 20g of tungsten is placed in the low heel area of the clubhead to minimize clubhead twisting at impact. A progressive construction design features tungsten in the 4-7 irons for improved launch and carry while the 8-GW are tungsten-free for a slightly more penetrating trajectory and enhanced accuracy in the scoring zone.
The KING TEC irons ($1299/7-piece set) are available in 4-PW with KBS $-Taper Lite steel shafts and Lamkin Crossline grips. LH models available through custom only.
KING TEC-X IRONS
Designed for 10-20 handicappers looking for a premium players game improvement iron, the KING TEC-X provides enhanced distance and forgiveness in a pleasing and relatively compact package. Featuring a slightly larger profile than the KING TEC, the KING TEC-X has a rounder and sleeker topline and reduced visual offset in comparison to the previous generation.
Improved feel is provided by softer and lighter foam microspheres that fill the hollow clubhead and damp vibration at impact while also improving acoustics. Like the KING TEC, the KING TEC-X design also incorporates Cobra’s PWRSHELL H.O.T. Face with a thinner face insert with Variable Thickness Geometry, creating faster ball speeds and more overall distance. A 70g tungsten weight is suspended low in the clubhead for a lower CG and improved stability and forgiveness on off-center hits. The suspended weight also allows the sole and face to flex freely, further enhancing ball speed and distance.
The KING TEC-X irons ($1299/7-piece set) are available in 5-GW with KBS TOUR LITE steel shafts and Lamkin Crossline grips. LH models available through custom only.
KING TEC-X ONE LENGTH IRONS
For players desiring the same distance and forgiveness attributes of the standard TEC-X with the added consistency and accuracy associated with the one-length design, a redesigned TEC-X ONE LENGTH model is also available. Featuring all the same premium technologies as the standard model, the TEC-X ONE LENGTH iron set contains 4-6 irons with wider soles (1.5mm wider), increased offset, and weaker lofts, making them easier to launch and more forgiving.
The KING TEC-X ONE LENGTH irons ($1299/7-piece set) are available in 5-GW with KBS TOUR LITE steel shafts and Lamkin Crossline grips. LH models available through custom only.
