2022 Genesis Invitational Recap

Los Angeles, CA — Joaquín Niemann has won the 2022 Genesis Invitational. Going wire-to-wire, he held the lead from the first round and never let go, scoring 19-under for the tournament. While he held a large lead for most of the tournament, he would end up winning only by two strokes when all was said and done.

Niemann got off to an extremely hot start, shooting back-to-back rounds of 63. A course record 36-hole score, as a matter of fact. From there, it was his tournament to lose. While he certainly cooled off in his later rounds shooting 68 and 71 on Saturday and Sunday, he still held off the field to claim his second PGA Tour title.

Niemann had the tournament under control for the week, but there were a number of other players who had their shot at silver: none more so than Cameron Young and Collin Morikawa. By the final round, both Young and Morikawa had tied for second place, each shooting 17-under-par for the tournament. The other top players of the week included the likes of Adam Scott, Victor Hovland who both finished T4, as well as Justin Thomas who came in sixth place.

Next week, the PGA Tour heads to South Florida for The Honda Classic. Australian player Matt Jones will look to defend his 2021 title and will be facing off against a number of the tour’s top talent. Some of the top players will include Brooks Koepka, Louis Oosthuizen, Daniel Berger, and Sungjae Im. Joaquin Niemann will also be there and will be looking to continue the hot streak he’s begun with this week’s win.
