Galvin Green Multi-Layer 2017 Apparel Review

50 Words or Less

Fashionable and functional, the Ebbot Skintight Thermal and Dash Insula pullover will keep you warm and comfortable while golfing in colder temperatures.  Part of the 2017 Multi-Layer Collection, Galvin Green again gets the details right.

Introduction

When it comes to addressing the varied climates golfers face around the world, Galvin Green may be the expedition leader.  Whether its hot or cold, dry or stormy, Galvin Green has golf apparel designed to function together in layers.  Earlier this year, I reported on the Ventil8 Plus collection representing the cool layer.  In this review, we’ll flip the calendar and bring you the finer points of the warming layers with Skintight Thermal underwear and Insula Lite outwear.

Performance

We’re faithfully honest here at Plugged In Golf, so let me go ahead and state that testing fall and winter clothing is difficult when the thermometer is still pushing 90 degrees.  However, I was able to put both the items featured in this review through a rigorous simulated indoor golf workout.

The Ebbot Skintight Thermal top is a very effective base layer.  Even though the seams are a dominant visual feature, their location was unnoticeable against my skin.  And being a golf-centric brand that gets the details right, Galvin Green designers didn’t put a seam right at the top of the shoulder where it might rub while carrying my bag.  Although the fabric had a thick feel, it was lightweight and moved effortlessly with every action I took.  As my body temperature rose, I appreciated how well the fabric breathed before transporting sweat away from my skin.

Galvin Green utilizes Insula Lite engineered fabric in its thermal layer gem, the Dash pullover.  The fabric has built in air chambers that regulate body temperature and moisture levels.  Slipping on the Dash, I instantly felt the warmth build.  The pullover stretched freely with every swing move I made.  As I maintained the effort, sweat started flowing, but I never felt uncomfortable.  The breathability of Insula Lite was readily apparent, keeping me from overheating.  Examining the Dash closely, the technical design features again jumped out.  The quilting on the shoulders and elbows provides added warmth for critical joints.  The grey fabric swaths are a bit thinner and located where golfers tend to perspire.

Style & Fit

Across the Galvin Green outerwear line there’s a contemporary style.  The Dash is a perfect example with its quilting, subtle contrast stitching, and a heat-welded chest pocket.  The Ebbot adds interest to a simple black long sleeve top with modern graphics and wide, bright, contrast stitching.

The fit of the Ebbot was better than I expected tight but not restrictive.  It was a medium size that felt medium.  The Dash pullover had the typical Galvin Green snugness, which, when layering for golf, is a good thing.  It’s very light and airy and could easily be worn under a rain jacket.

Conclusion

Galvin Green wants you to enjoy golf no matter what the weather conditions are.  And knowing conditions change over the course of a round, they offer multiple layers that are designed to work together.  Representing the 2017 base and warm layers, the Ebbot Skintight Thermal and Dash Insula pullover will definitely keep you warm and comfortable.
