The Callaway Micro Laser Rangefinder is very compact, accurate laser rangefinder at a reasonable price. An excellent choice for golfers who like to walk.
Introduction
Those that have been around golf for a while will remember that laser rangefinders used to be anything but pocket-sized. Over the last decade, they’ve gone from requiring two hands to fitting easily into the palm of golfers of all sizes. The Callaway Micro Laser Rangefinder takes things to a whole new level, measuring just over an inch wide and roughly 3.5″ X 2.5″. Can this mini laser perform as well as its bigger brothers? We put it to the test to find out.
Setup & Ease of Use
The Callaway Micro Laser Rangefinder operates as easily as any other laser – insert battery, push button for distance – but the way that you use the sight is substantially different. Unlike most lasers where you need to have your eye all the way up to the unit, the Micro is meant to be used at a small distance from your eye. There’s a red dot that you place inside a grey both to identify your target, and then the distance displays on the screen instead of inside the viewfinder. Having used rangefinders for over 10 years, my habit of putting the viewfinder right to my eye was hard to break, but the Micro will work that way, too – you just need to move the unit away from your face to read the distance.
Accuracy & Performance
From close distances to long range, the Callaway Micro Laser Rangefinder was every bit as accurate as it claims (+/- 1 yard), and locking onto objects in both prism and standard mode is easy.
The big benefits of the Micro are, of course, the size and weight. You can slide the Micro into and out of your pocket quickly, and it’s small enough to stay there during your round. If you do prefer to store it in your bag while walking, the lighter weight and smaller profile are still a plus because it goes in and out of the bag more easily.
Value
The Callaway Micro Laser Rangefinder comes in a Power Pack that retails for $300. This price is right in the middle of the range for laser rangefinders, and the inclusion of an extra battery, divot tool, carrying case, and sleeve of Chrome Soft balls is a nice plus. Overall, the Callaway Micro is a solid value.
Conclusion
For the walking golfer, the Callaway Micro Laser Rangefinder is a new option that is definitely worth exploring. While the lighter weight won’t be noticeable in a bag, it’s a huge upgrade for those that carry their laser in their pocket, and the smaller size makes it easier to handle.

How long does the battery last?
Dean,
Unless you play a ton, one battery should last at least a season.
