American Golf Star Weighs in to Scottish Course Fight

Scotland is home to some of the best and most prestigious golf courses in the world, but fans will be surprised to learn that Bryson DeChambeau is backing a campaign to keep the Dalmuir course open.

The American star is preparing to take part in the LIV Hong Kong event where he is the bookmakers 12/1 fourth-favorite behind Tyrell Hatton, Joaqin Niemann, and John Rahm.

DeChambeau has a busy schedule in 2025 with The LIV Golf Singapore following the Hong Kong Tournament in March, The Masters in April, and countless other exciting events that fans will be keen to back him in.

US golf fans with limited access to sports betting sites can enjoy a variety of offshore operators, including the best Litecoin betting sites, which offer a secure way to bet and enjoy faster withdrawals.

Dalmuir Golf Course

The municipal course located in Dalmuir, West Dunbartonshire faces closure due to spiralling running costs. The local council has to subsidize the operation by over £100,000 (approximately $130,000). Discussions have taken place as to how to move forward, with one option being to raise green fees and membership rates.

There are fears that increasing current rates could drive people away from the course, resulting in even greater losses. The other options open for the course include reducing it to 12 holes to cut back on maintenance costs, or the complete closure of the facility.

The course is only 3 years away from celebrating its centenary, having opened in 1928, and it has already fought off threats of closure in 2024. The par 68 course is more than 5,000 yards long and is set in beautiful parkland and hills that boast incredible views over the local area.

Sadly, in a time when all public expenditure is closely scrutinized, the future of the historic golf course is in a precarious position with one campaigner claiming that a council insider told them that they are 99.9% sure the course will be closed.

The course is home to a number of local clubs, and a petition that started after the latest threat of closure was announced has already had around 3,5000 signatures.

Why Bryson DeChambeau is Getting Involved with Potential Glasgow Golf Course Closure

The campaign to save the club has already received backing from big names in the golfing world, including Scottish Open winner Robert MacIntyre, Luke Donald, and Justin Rose. But the latest support comes from Bryson DeChambeau who has won the US Open twice.

DeChambeau discussed the importance of public golf courses for the community and the future of golf. His video was posted to X by experienced caddy Craig Connelly. The former Caddy of the Year is Scottish and lives near the Dalmuir golf course, making it an important topic for him.

Gaining support from some of the biggest names in the sport will not only work in favor of campaigners but will also help publicize the issue.

31-year-old DeChambeau, who has 9 PGA Tour wins, 3 European Tour Wins, 1 Korn Ferry Tour win, and 2 LIV Golf wins, can help the campaign reach an international audience, and there are still hopes that something can be worked out to save the course.

How the Course Could Be Saved

Despite reports that West Dunbartonshire Council is fairly set on the closure as part of wider budget-management decisions, campaigners are still hopeful that something can be worked out.

One of the best options available to local golf fans is the potential of carrying out the legal process known as a community asset transfer that would see the local community take ownership and responsibility of course management.

This option could be best for all parties involved, with the council able to transfer responsibility over to a community group and make massive savings on their budget, while the local community would benefit from keeping the course open and making the changes necessary to make it a profitable business.

No matter what decision the local council makes about the future of Dalmuir golf course, the local community will have to band together to secure its future. The backing of top international golfing talent will be a massive boost, and could make all the difference when it comes to getting new members and funding.
