2023 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Recap

Justin Rose Back in the Winners’ Circle at Pebble

Pebble Beach, CA – Justin Rose (-18) won the 2023 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.  It was his 12th career PGA Tour victory and first in four years.  Rose made a big move on Saturday, firing -6 in his third round to vault himself into a one stroke lead over Peter Malnati and 36-hole leader Kurt Kitayama.  He was able to keep the mojo working in his final round, shooting 66 to win by three.

Finishing behind Rose were Brendon Todd and Brandon Wu (both -15), followed by Denny McCarthy, Peter Malnati, and Keith Mitchell (-14).

Others who had notable performances included Taylor Pendrith, who shot a final round 64 to jump up to T7; Ryan Moore, similar to Rose, enjoyed a resurgent week, also finishing T7; and Viktor Hovland, who won the US Am at Pebble, and finished T13 at -10.

The week was a bit unusual in a number of ways.  Even though Pebble is an iconic and historic event on the PGA Tour, its field wasn’t terribly strong as the tournament isn’t a “Designated Event” like next week’s WM Phoenix Open.  That means that many of the top players skipped this week in favor of next week.  6+ hour rounds with amateurs might have something to do with that, too.  While the golfers in the field still represent the cream of the crop in terms of golf pros around the world, there weren’t a lot of names to get the general public excited.

The weather also complicated things, with strong winds, rain, and hail interrupting play and ultimately leading to a Monday finish.

Next week, the PGA Tour heads to TPC Scottsdale for the WM Phoenix Open.  Scottie Scheffler is the reigning champion and will defend against a field that includes Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau, Matt Fitzpatrick, Viktor Hovland, Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama, Jon Rahm, and Rory McIlroy.
