The 2026 Tour Championship Recap

Atlanta, GA – Scottie Sheffler has won the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club. With this win, he also wins the 2026 Fedex Cup and $10 million. This is Sheffler’s 3rd win this year, and 22nd career victory. It’s his second Fedex Cup, his first win came in 2024.

Sheffler played very consistently all week, shooting 65, 67, 66, and another 66 in the final round. As is usual with Scottie, his approach play was dominant. He gained 7 strokes on the field in Strokes Gained: Approach, which easily ranked first.

Victor Hovland was the leader going into the final day, but he wasn’t able to hold off Sheffler. He shot a 72 in the final round to finish second. Ryan Gerard joined Hovland in the final pairing, but also shot a 72 to finish third.

Even though he hasn’t won a major this year, this puts Sheffler in the drivers seat for the PGA Tour Player of the Year award. In addition to his three wins, he has 5 second place finishes.

This is the second to last Tour Championship in its current format. Last week, new PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp unveiled a new plan to change the Tour Championship into a two week match play tournament starting in 2028. The top 32 players will make the championship. The first week will be a pool play format where the players are split into 8 groups of 4. The top 2 from each group will advance to the next week where there will be a traditional bracket for the top 16.

The PGA Tour takes a few weeks off before the Biltmore Championship Asheville, which starts September 17th. The top players will likely take some much needed time off, so the earliest we may see Sheffler again could be Tiger Woods’ tournament, the Hero World Challenge, in December.
