Lahaina, Hawaii – In the first event of 2024, Georgia native Chris Kirk holds off the field as The 2024 Sentry Tournament of Champions winner.
As is with the start of every new year, The Sentry Tournament of Champions is one of the most coveted tournaments of the year. This is because only those individuals who either won in the prior year’s season or qualified for the Tour Championship get an invite. Of course, that typically makes this a very strong but limited field.
That strong field is led by names like Jordan Spieth who shot all four rounds in the 60s, capped off with a final round 65. Still, he fell a few shots short of victory. Collin Morikawa and Scottie Scheffler both turned in 72 hole scores of 25 under par and still fell four strokes back of the leader. Netflix star and 2023 Fortinet Champion Sahith Theegala found himself in the hunt after a first round of 64 and a final round 63. Theegala had a chance on his 72nd to get into tie for the lead and force a playoff but missed the putt.
This left Chris Kirk who made the most of every chance he got, shooting an impressive pair of 65s, a 66, and a 67 to win only his second time since making his recovery from battling alcoholism and depression in 2019. This is the sixth PGA Tour win for the University of Georgia product and will get him exempt into the Masters in which he was not previously.
Next week, the PGA Tour heads across the islands for the Sony Open in Honolulu.
