50 Words or Less

The Leupold PinCaddie 2 laser rangefinder is a great entry-level laser for players on a budget or those who simply don’t need the extras.

Introduction

Leupold is a name that’s probably better known in the hunting and military communities than in the golf world, but those that have read my past reviews of their products know that I wouldn’t trust my distances to any other company.  With the release of the PinCaddie 2, Leupold has improved on their least expensive laser to bring better information to even more golfers.

Set-Up & Ease of Use

As with all of Leupold’s laser rangefinders, using the PinCaddie 2 is remarkably simple.  In fact, because it’s stripped down to the necessary functions, it’s the easiest-to-use laser that I’ve tested.  Insert the battery, push the power button to bring up the cross hairs, and press it again to get your distance.  Holding the power button down puts the laser in scan mode which will quickly give the distance to each target as you scan across the area.

Accuracy & Performance

On the whole, the Leupold PinCaddie 2 laser rangefinder is a very accurate laser, and one I would happily use on the golf course.  That said, there are some important differences between the PinCaddie 2 and some of Leupold’s other lasers.

I recently reviewed Leupold’s GX-1i2, the laser rangefinder that’s one step up from the PinCaddie 2.  There are a number of things that these two have in common – the durable polymer body, black LCD display – but there are some differences as well.  The PinCaddie 2 lacks Leupold’s DNA technology, prism lock, and fog mode.  It’s also worth noting that it has a shorter range than the GX-1i2: 300 yards vs 400.  On the other hand, the PinCaddie 2 is the lightest and smallest laser in Leupold’s line which makes it a great choice for those that want to carry it in their pocket.

Value

The Leupold PinCaddie 2 laser rangefinder retails for only $199.  While it doesn’t have the bells and whistles of higher-priced rangefinders, it’s a great value for those looking to improve their course management without emptying their pockets.

Conclusion

If you’ve been putting off the purchase of a laser rangefinder because of the cost, you’re officially out of excuses.  The Leupold PinCaddie 2 laser rangefinder is a highly accurate laser that’s small, light, and easy to use.  The cost is barely that of a new hybrid, and, based on my experiences with Leupold products, it will be in your bag much longer.
