Cleveland TFI 2135 Satin Elevado Putter Review

50 Words or Less

With a soft feel and optimized face milling, the Cleveland TFI 2135 Satin Elevado is a mallet putter that may improve your alignment and consistency.

Introduction

Looking back at Bill’s Cleveland TFI 2135 Elevado review pictures from last year, I was amazed at how little had changed for 2017 – until I got to the face.  Then I read about feel and knew Cleveland didn’t just make a cosmetic rehash with the TFI 2135 Satin Elevado.  The shape may be a clone, but this is a fresh design in all other respects.

Looks

While it once might have been thought of as a futuristic look, the Cleveland TFI 2135 Satin Elevado is now almost tame.  The strong lines and the thickness of the metal work well together.

I like the contrasting finishes on the sole that the designers incorporated.  The face milling is extremely deep and eye catching.  The sightline is very crisp and has 50% higher contrast than the previous model according to Cleveland Golf.

Sound & Feel

The Cleveland TFI 2135 Satin Elevado is one of the quietest, softest feeling putters I’ve ever tried.  Even the range ball I found on the putting green didn’t click on the face.  I attribute this to the face milling, which Cleveland Golf states is 3 times deeper than last year’s model, and the polymer insert behind the face.   That insert also dampens vibrations, keeping the feel consistent from the logo out to the toe.

Performance

With the soft feel, it took a few strokes to get my speed up and distance control dialed in.  I found the Cleveland TFI 2135 Satin Elevado very responsive and consistent.

You may have noted “Elevado Optimized Milling” etched into the leading edge.  That refers to the fact that the face of each of the five putters of the TFI 2135 Satin series is unique.  Each face is optimized to adjust energy transfer for equal ball speed regardless of where the strike occurs.  Ball speeds were lowered for center hits and increased on off-center for more equal distance results.  I found no measurable loss of distance when hitting a full inch towards the toe.

Cleveland Golf would still prefer golfers to strike the center of the face, and that’s the design intent of the TFI 2135.  Positioning the sightline 21.35 mm (the radius of a golf ball) up from the bottom puts the sightline at the centerline of the golf ball to aid in putter positioning no matter where your eyes are.  Per Cleveland’s research, 80% of golfers don’t have their eyes directly over the ball which can lead to off center positioning and strikes.

Conclusion

My stroke typically fights against face balanced putters, but the Cleveland TFI 2135 Satin Elevado flowed very well for me.  Once I became accustomed to the super soft feel, my distance control was solid.  Overall, the putter was very forgiving on mishits and has me thinking about alignment with every putter I pick up now.  Retailing for around $150, the TFI 2135 Satin Elevado is going to draw a lot of interest.
