Introduction
If you’re a parent of a young baseball or softball player, there’s no doubt that you’re familiar with Bruce Bolt. They’re the makers of the batting gloves. From the rainbow of color combinations to the trademark lightning bolt, they are the coolest thing on the diamond. But there’s more to them than just style and hype – they’re also made of high quality leather that will dramatically outlast the alternatives
Now Bruce Bolt is turning their attention to golf gloves. Can they offer a glove more premium than the current industry leader, or will this be a failed pivot from their core business? Read on to find out.
Looks
In batting gloves, Bruce Bolt’s calling card is bold color combinations, as you can see above. Even their more basic offerings have the lightning bolt on the back, making them instantly recognizable. While we’ve seen some companies offer colored golf gloves before – most notably G/FORE [review HERE] – no one has gone to these lengths, yet.
The current array of Bruce Bolt golf gloves offers more color choices than other brands without going quite as far as they do with batting gloves. At the time of this writing, they have seven colors: white, black, navy, yellow, pink, mint, and an awful light blue.
Bruce Bolt is also well known for their partnerships with baseball players, and we can see that starting on the golf side, too. They have signature models for Sergio Garcia and the Bryan Bros. Garcia’s glove is red and white; the Bryan Bros’ is white and light blue with graphics.
Across all the color options, what I like about the Bruce Bolt golf gloves is the clean appearance. There are no perforations or mixed materials. The branding is more subdued than your average glove. These are premium gloves that look premium.

Feel & Performance
When I pulled on a Bruce Bolt golf glove for the first time, the fit immediately stood out to me. It’s the tightest fit I’ve ever experienced. It’s still true to size, but there is a short break-in period (this is true of their batting gloves, too). The effect is that the glove feels like a second skin. For me – someone who avoids gloves because I can’t stand the bunching and unevenness – this fit is a game changer.

Part of the “second skin” feel is the fit; another part is how thin the leather is. Bruce Bolt golf gloves are made from 0.45 mm Cabretta leather. It gives a slightly enhanced grip while allowing the player to retain a lot of touch and feel.

As much as I love the look and feel of these gloves, the lack of perforations does give me some concern about how they’ll handle heat and sweat. Unfortunately, I received these gloves during the late fall, so I was not able to test them in hot conditions. Bruce Bolt says the gloves have a “moisture resistant backing,” and they’re sold in pairs for the express purpose of changing gloves frequently.

Finally, a word on durability. I’ve been using one glove for several range sessions and three rounds of golf. Fairly early on, I noticed a wear pattern on the heel that spread to the fingers with more use (see above). It is purely aesthetic – the glove is 100% in tact. Interestingly, despite much much rigorous use, I haven’t seen any of this discoloration in the softball gloves that my daughters wear. I would be curious to test another color to see if this is unique to darker colors.
Bruce Bolt golf gloves come with a 100-Day Guarantee against defects in materials or workmanship. This guarantee does not apply to “normal wear and tear or cosmetic damage.” Additionally, golf gloves only qualify if both gloves show the some qualifying defect.

Value
Bruce Bolt golf gloves are sold in pairs for $80 or $85 (youth golf gloves are $60 or $65). The extra $5 is for the signature models. You can support Plugged In Golf by buying Bruce Bolt gloves HERE.
At $40 per glove, Bruce Bolt is on par with the most expensive gloves from FootJoy. I think the quality of the materials and workmanship merits this price, but the glove is substantially different than any other glove that I’ve tested. If you are looking for a different kind of glove, these are definitely worth a try. If you’re hoping that these will be just like FootJoy but somehow better, you’ll be disappointed.

Conclusion
Overall, I’m impressed with Bruce Bolt golf gloves. Their reputation for quality rings true, and the fit and feel of the gloves is genuinely different than the vast majority of the gloves on the market. Their initial color offerings give players a chance to show their style without getting too wild, and I hope that expands over time.
