Toulon Golf Announces Latest Small Batch Release — Scotland

VISTA, CA – Toulon Golf, the maker of the most exquisite milled putters in the world, today officially announces our latest Small Batch putter — the Scotland.

About Small Batch Scotland
In the creation of this Small Batch design our mission was to pay a proper tribute to the most iconic city in golf, and launch during the Women’s Open Championship at St. Andrews. This most significant place in our game inspired us to explore the charming surroundings of the golf course, and the many small shops that populate the streets nearby. Many of these shops date back hundreds of years and were home to some of the very first golf club makers in the world. Old Tom Morris and the Auchterlonies honed their legendary skills here.

That inspiration led us to the creation of Small Batch Scotland and the thoughts of Toulon having a family business there years ago. Toulon & Sons felt like the appropriate name for our theoretical shop.

We set out to create this concept of a store front sign that would quietly identify the activity that would take place inside, and just as many of the businesses that line the neighborhood streets of St. Andrews were family owned and operated, so are we. Inside the shops, most had family members tending to the businesses, and many had a family dog.

So as much as Scotland pays tribute to the incredible Home of Golf, it also celebrates the contributions of these historical family businesses to golf. The sole of Small Batch Scotland represents what our shop may have looked like had it lined the streets of St. Andrews a century ago, and is finished with a tribute to our beloved and recently departed shop dog, Jack.

With all of this as a backdrop, we have created our first Toulon & Sons putter. And as opening salvos go, we couldn’t be prouder of its outcome. Toulon & Sons Scotland is stunning in every way.

The Head
We wanted to pay tribute to vintage putter design, but as always, modernize it so the finished putter is not just nostalgic in all the most beautiful ways, but one that would also play today at the very highest levels. That means aside from the look of every radius, blend and proportion being meticulously pored over, it had to sound and feel equally great. To modernize Scotland, we added a modified H1 hosel to the classic pintail design, lengthened the blade length to a modern 4.5 inches and designed a tailored, elegant squared off shoulder and bumper design.

The cavity design allows us to bring the design into modern proportion for both length and width, but it also improves the Scotland’s MOI to make it very forgiving.

Upon close inspection of the topline — and most evident while looking at the putter from the face on perspective — you’ll notice the gently raised and curved topline design. This not only pays homage to great pintail designs from the past, but subtly moves the CG to the center of the putter head, improving sound and feel and overall performance.

The Cavity
The back cavity design features a crest we designed for our family. The cross in the center signifies unity in our family and the detail on the top of the badge represents our five family members, while the sixth is emblematic of the beloved dogs we’ve been blessed to have as family members over the years.

The face mill pattern is a Fine Double Fly Cut which was chosen for its artistic flair — and with the addition of the Big Tuna over mill, it creates just the right amount of audio feedback.

The Rest
A celebration of the Home of Golf and the contributions of family businesses to golf equipment required a special headcover. The Toulon family has had a close personal relationship with another family-owned business — Seamus Golf — dating back nearly a decade. To finish Small Batch Scotland, we collaborated with our dear friends at Seamus to create a beautiful wool Toulon & Sons headcover featuring an iconic Scottish tartan pattern. We thank our wonderful friends at Seamus for their contribution to Toulon & Sons Small Batch Scotland.

Scotland — nostalgic yet modern, and undeniably beautiful.

The Small Batch Scotland is available for purchase on a first come, first served basis on August 22nd via the company’s website.

Designed by Women, For Women: TaylorMade Introduces Kalea Gold Premium Women’s Line

CARLSBAD, CATaylorMade Golf Company, an industry leader in technology and innovation, introduces the all-new Kalea Gold women’s line. Building on the groundbreaking design of Kalea Premier, every piece of equipment in Kalea Gold was designed with premium components and proven TaylorMade technologies to help women of all abilities play better golf. No matter if they’re learning the game or vying for their Club Championship, Kalea Gold elevates the experience for women golfers from tee to green.

Designed by Women for Women

In creating Kalea Gold, TaylorMade engineers and designers identified the critical role input from women would play in the design process. That’s why they enlisted four distinct cohorts of women golfers for their feedback.

The first was the TaylorMade Women’s Advisory Board. This group is comprised of female golf industry professionals located across Europe that represent specific niches like teaching, club fitting, and even women’s golf travel. Together, these women were able to give TaylorMade teams expert feedback on what both they and their female clients liked and didn’t like.

The second group was the TaylorMade Women’s Golf and Social Club. Consisting of TaylorMade employees, these women were able to provide real-time, organic feedback on everything from colors incorporated into the design to the grips on each club.

Women’s data-driven/perception test panels and online reviews from Kalea Premier were the final two cohorts that helped guide the vision of what Kalea Gold would ultimately become.

In analyzing feedback from these groups of women, TaylorMade engineers and product creation teams found that two main priorities rose to the top: cosmetics and performance. Cosmetically, women overwhelmingly advocated for a departure from the soft, pastel colors that are often found in women’s clubs. Instead, they preferred elegant colors like white, blue and gold that are found in Kalea Gold.

From a performance standpoint in testing, women found the Kalea Gold clubs to be lightweight, forgiving, and high-performing.

Through this process, TaylorMade teams gained a keen understanding of who the Kalea Gold consumer truly is. While some women were purchasing Kalea Gold as their first set of clubs, a significant portion were making the change to the Kalea Gold line for their second or even third set of new equipment. It became clear early on that Kalea Gold showed tangible benefits for women of all abilities.

Designed for More Speed and More Distance

  • The Kalea Gold driver utilizes Carbonwood™ construction throughout the clubhead. This allows for mass to be strategically placed within the head to increase energy transfer, optimize launch, and maximize distance, all while providing the utmost forgiveness and stability.
  • Mass optimization also allows for the addition of a 2° loft sleeve and a TSS weight for precision tuning.

Optimized Performance

  • Kalea Gold fairway woods feature a wrapped carbon crown with an elegant look that provides a confidence-inspiring contrast with the ball at address. Here again, the use of ultralightweight carbon enhances launch conditions, speed and forgiveness.
  • The Speed Pocket™ and Inverted Cone face minimize the downrange miss on off-center strikes. The addition of a TSS weight allows for optimized tuning here as well.

Precision Performance

  • Both the Speed Pocket and Inverted Cone in the face of the Kalea Gold Rescue™ provide an extra layer of forgiveness. Additionally, the carbon crown lowers the CG for enhanced launch and spin.

Forgiveness and Control

  • Kalea Gold irons utilize Cap Back™ Design which works in tandem with the Speed Pocket to maximize launch and forgiveness. They also feature an ECHO® Damper that promotes better sound and overall feel. The optimized face in each iron is engineered to increase COR for faster ball speeds.
  • Visually, the top lines of Kalea Gold irons are thinner than those of Kalea Premier providing a sleeker, cleaner look in the playing position.
  • Kalea Gold iron lofts are stronger than Kalea Premier to help improve gapping. The irons have a progressive upright lie angle that aids in draw bias.

Tour Proven Spider Technology

  • The Kalea Gold putter uses Spider S construction and multi-material design to increase MOI and stability while aiding in alignment. Its blue body, grey TruePath Alignment, and gold trailing edge provide the perfect contrast against both the ball and green.

Style and Function

  • Premium construction and attention to detail don’t stop with Kalea Gold clubs. The headcovers are in line with the Kalea Gold theme with their white, gold, grey and blue designs.
  • Women can ride in style with the blue and white, or white and grey TaylorMade Cart Lite bag that features a 14-way top and weighs just five pounds. For walkers, the blue and white FlexTech bag offers a four-way top and weighs just five pounds as well.

Pricing and Specifications

Kalea Gold will be available for preorder in stores and at TaylorMadeGolf.com for $1899.00 for the 10-piece set including golf bag.
