The 2025 FootJoy HyperFlex Carbon BOA adds the peerless fit and convenience of the BOA Fit System to the outstanding traction and stability of the HyperFlex. One of the most comfortable high performance golf shoes available.
Introduction
FootJoy’s high performance HyperFlex family introduced another winner with the 2025 version [review HERE]. It showed the hallmarks of stability and traction while raising the bar on comfort in a performance shoe. For this review, I got to take a walk in the most premium version, the FootJoy HyperFlex Carbon BOA, to see how the addition of a carbon plate and the best closure system in footwear could take the HyperFlex to even higher levels.
Looks
The 2025 FootJoy HyperFlex Carbon BOA are only available in an all-white colorway that’s not offered in the standard HyperFlex. There is a bit of grey around the opening and a black “FJ” logo on the outside of the heel, but otherwise the shoe is entirely a clean white. This puts all the focus on the different elements of the shoe, primarily the arch that crosses the middle of the foot.
Flipping the FootJoy HyperFlex Carbon BOA over, you’ll find a largely black sole which goes a long way toward hiding some of the namesake technology. If you look closely, you can see the carbon plate underneath the arch of your foot, but it’s not highlighted the way it is on other shoes.

Comfort
Sliding my feet into the FootJoy HyperFlex Carbon BOA was a pleasure. As with the standard HyperFlex, I noted ample padding around the heel, a key area that keeps these shoes comfortable no matter how long you’re on the course. This is paired with underfoot cushioning, too – FootJoy’s StratoFOAM – which strikes that “just right” balance between firm and squishy.
The interior shape of the HyperFlex Carbon BOA is the same as the standard HyperFlex – structured without being restrictive or tight – but it’s elevated by the BOA Fit System. There’s ample room in the toe, with the shoe first setting boundaries around the ball of the foot. The BOA Fit System locks down the midfoot evenly without any pressure points or discomfort.
Performance
I want to start with the elements that make the FootJoy HyperFlex Carbon BOA unique from the standard HyperFlex – namely, the Carbon Fiber PowerPlate and the BOA Fit System. Carbon sole plates are nothing new to FootJoy – they appeared in the 2023 HyperFlex Carbon [review HERE] – or in footwear in general, from golf to running. The difference is subtle, but they can provide superior energy return, allowing you to get more power from the ground into your swing. A new shoe won’t magically turn you into Justin Thomas, but every little bit does help.
The more obvious upgrade is the BOA Fit System. This particular iteration uses the Li2 Dial – light weight and low-profile – which allows you to both tighten and loosen the fit in tiny increments. I am a huge fan of BOA – I’ve never used a shoe with BOA and preferred the laced version. BOA is faster than traditional laces, it allows for a more precise fit and adjustments, and it spreads the pressure out evenly across your foot rather than creating pressure points. I can’t recommend it enough.
Outside of those two things, everything else about the 2025 FootJoy HyperFlex [review HERE] holds true for this version. The stability and traction are exceptional. The combination of the Pulsar LP spikes and the molded traction elements keep this shoe rooted to the ground, and the TPU saddle keeps your foot locked into the sole. If you’re an aggressive swinger or need a shoe that performs in all conditions, you won’t find one better.
On top of that, this shoe is a comfortable partner for an 18 hole walk. There’s ample cushioning and a nice energy return with each step. In terms of weight, heel drop, and stack height, this is a traditional FootJoy – it’s fairly heavy with a substantial stack height and heel drop. The FootJoy HyperFlex Carbon BOA comes with a two year waterproof warranty, so your feet will stay dry in all weather.
Conclusion
For me, the FootJoy HyperFlex Carbon BOA is the best version of this shoe. The carbon soleplate is a small performance upgrade, and the BOA Fit System improves everything about traditional lacing. These upgrades do come at a cost – $65 more than the standard HyperFlex – but, in my opinion, they’re meaningful upgrades on a great shoe.

My next shoe ! I’m a FJ guy call the way!!
I have the 2023/2024 Hyperflex BOA where the BOA looks more like a monk-strap than traditional laces. Much prefer this laces-like design. Besides that, absolutely great shoe.
can you elaborate on the standard vs carbon versions? Do they “feel” much different underfoot? and any comments on the material being different? Thx for the review!

The carbon is a little stiffer, but it’s not a night and day difference. If you have them side by side, I think it’s noticeable.

In your opinion what’re the significant upgrades to the 2023 Hyperflex Carbon? They’re retailed at $99.99 and I grabbed a pair brand new in the box and they’ve been fantastic.

I think this new version is like new versions of clubs – incremental improvements across the board (cushioning, stability, etc) but no night and day changes.
