Matsuyama defeats Na in playoff to win Memorial

DUBLIN, Ohio — Hideki Matsuyama earned his first victory in America and validation as one of golf’s young stars Sunday with birdie on the 18th hole to force a playoff and a 10-foot par putt on the first extra to win the Memorial.

In a tournament that Masters champions Bubba Watson and Adam Scott threw away on a wild back nine, Matsuyama looked certain to join them.

He lost the lead by dropping three shots on two holes, and he didn’t look like a winner when he pushed his drive toward the bunkers on the final hole. Lightly slamming his driver to the turf in disgust, the head broke off. Matsuyama followed with an approach to just outside 5 feet for birdie and a 3-under 69.

Stacy Lewis wins ShopRite LPGA Classic

Stacy Lewis claimed her 10th career LPGA Tour win with a six-shot victory at the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer. Lewis shot a final-round 67 to push her three-day total to 16-under par, one shot shy of the tournament record. Fellow American Christina Kim finished runner-up at 10-under par. Lewis is projected to take over the No. 1 ranking in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings on Monday, snapping Inbee Park’s 59-week streak at the top spot.

“I don’t know what it is about this place,” said Lewis. “It’s just really special to me.  I’ve played some really good golf here, and it’s just mind boggling really to think I have ten wins out here.  It’s so hard to win.  There’s so many good players, and it’s so hard to win, so you never take them for granted.  You enjoy them, that’s for sure.  I’ve learned that you enjoy them because they’re so hard.”

Salt Lake City, UT (May 29, 2014) – OGIO, a leading designer of golf bags and apparel, introduces its new SilencerTM stand bag for golfers on the move. Equipped with OGIO’s innovative Silencer Club Protection System* and a weight equalizing Shoxx X4 strap, the Silencer provides the most comfortable and quiet golfing experience to date. OGIO designed the Silencer stand bag from the ground up with the walking golfer in mind. Silencer’s dynamic protective membrane top separates up to 14 club heads and the proprietary Unibody Grip Lock bottom uses flex grab teeth to keep clubs in place and eliminate movement. By reducing the dreaded clanking sound and minimizing club dings, golfers can add years of life to any set of clubs. The feather-lite stand bag’s durable integrated handles allow for stable and secure lifting, while the equalizing shoulder strap balances weight across your back, making it as comfortable on the 18th green as it is on the first tee.

Built for efficiency, organization and ease, the Silencer features 7 pockets. Pockets include an insulated zippered water bottle pocket, as well as a fleece-lined pocket for valuables. The added touch of a pen sleeve also ensures all of your items, no matter how small, have a place.
