Carlsbad, Calif. (Jan. 24, 2017) Cobra Golf, a leader in golf club innovation and technology, today introduced its new KING PUR™ Wedges, featuring a new raw, un-plated stainless steel finish for maximum spin, improved feel, versatility and precision around the greens. The KING PUR Wedges utilize COBRA’s patented Progressive Spin Technology in three specific sole grinds designed to cater to three very different types of wedge play and conditions.

The new KING PUR Wedges are constructed from Raw 304 Stainless Steel to maximize spin performance with ultra-precise grooves and a finish that diffuses sunlight to reduce glare at address. The KING PUR wedges (MAP $119) are designed and manufactured using COBRA’s cutting-edge Progressive Milled Grooves which feature wider grooves and closer gapping on higher lofted wedges, and traditional thinner, deeper grooves on lower lofted wedges. The wider groove design allows higher lofted wedges (56-60*) to grab the ball to impart more spin, and make spin performance more consistent throughout the wedge set. The new grooves are combined with Variable Face Roughness (VFR), a face milling technology that maximizes both RA (average roughness) and RY (max peak-to-peak depth) to the USGA limit, delivering more control and precision on greenside shots.

Like its predecessor, the KING PUR Wedge is available in COBRA’s three sole grind configurations that feature the iconic COBRA notch, and provide golfers with the ability to choose the perfect wedge for their game and for any turf condition. Each unique sole grind has its own set of advantages: the Versatile sole features heel and toe relief and a medium bounce (8-10*) to provide overall versatility on medium to firm turf conditions. The Classic configuration has a high sole bounce (11-12*) and progressively wider sole from heel to toe for ease of use on all turf conditions. The WideLow option has a low bounce (4-7*) with 6 sole that works well on medium to soft turf conditions.

NIKE GOLF ANNOUNCES NEW EUROPEAN SIGNINGS

Six European golf athletes, including eight-time European Tour winner Alex Noren and European Ryder Cup star Thomas Pieters, have joined the Nike Golf team. Their signing follows announcement of World No. 1 Jason Day’s commitment to the brand.

The other signings include Alexander Levy (France), a three-time winner on The European Tour; 2015 BMW Masters champion Kristoffer Broberg (Sweden); and The European Tour newcomers Alexander Knappe (Germany) and Pep Angles (Spain).

All six athletes will wear Nike apparel and footwear, and have been working with Nike product and sports marketing teams in the off-season to ascertain which innovations best suit their game.

Noren — currently the 10th-ranked player in the world — resumes his 2017 season this week after ending 2016 with four memorable wins at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, Omega European Masters, British Masters supported by Sky Sports and the Nedbank Golf Challenge hosted by Gary Player.

“I had five great months on tour in 2016, but I want to use the best possible product and keep improving,” says Noren. “I was excited to learn about the new innovations that Nike were working on in both apparel and footwear.”
