Carnoustie Fall 2016 Apparel Review

50 Words or Less

With an emphasis on using only the finest materials, the Carnoustie Fall 2016 collection maintains its high standards with sophisticated, comfortable clothing ready for the golf course, the office, or a social gathering.

For over 20 years, Carnoustie has been recognized as a producer of high quality apparel with a refined, classic style.  Evolving with consumer demand, Carnoustie more recently began complementing their luxurious cotton and wool pieces with performance polyesters.  The grey Carnoustie Tech polo is from the new Fall 2016 collection and the Palmer Trousers are a staple of the brand.  The white Performance Engineered Stripe polo is from the Spring 2016 collection, but I couldn’t help including it – it’s a favorite and deserves some attention.

In one word – sophisticated.  Slipping on the Carnoustie Palmer Trousers and solid grey Carnoustie Tech polo I feel ready for a presentation in the board room prior to teeing it up with the team of executives.  I don’t actually see that occurring in my future, but now I’m ready to look sharp.  That’s the beauty of a timeless style, it serves you well even when fashions take some undesirable turns.  I’m always a fan of the self collar – it really adds to the crisp look of these polos.   The Heather Grey Palmer Trousers have a subtle plaid and will get added use with a long sleeve button down when I need to step up my appearance for holiday parties and family gatherings.

Holding steady down the middle of the fashion road, Carnoustie has maintained a regular fit.  No euro-tight or athletic cut here.  The polos are roomy, but not in excess – just a comfortable fit.  Wearing a medium, the shoulder seam sits right where it’s expected and sleeve covers the upper arm.  The online size chart is spot on.  The Carnoustie Heather Grey Palmer Trousers fit, well, like fine tailored trousers.  The wool is amazingly soft and easy to move in thanks to the silky liner that runs to your knee.  The trousers come unhemmed and my local tailor fixed them up for 15 bucks, so now they’re the perfect length.

It’s been an extremely hot and humid September here in Florida and I was impressed with the moisture management performance of the Carnoustie polos.  Not only did sweat move from my body to the shirt, but it evaporated quickly thereafter.  The new Carnoustie Tech polo has 50+ UV protection which means it blocks over 98% of the harmful rays of the sun, a comforting fact for someone like me who is at high risk for more skin cancer.  And the 90/10 poly/spandex blend provides fabric stretch when you need it.  I know wool breathes and pros wear long pants year round, but I have a mental hurdle in testing these trousers on the course when it’s still in the 90s.  However, I can report that I felt unencumbered and completely comfortable putting the Palmer Trouser through extreme moves in the comfort of my a/c.

Carnoustie’s tag line is: “Elegant style, timeless appeal” and I couldn’t agree more.  Although a simple grey color, the contrasting white color around the collar and placket make the Carnoustie Tech polo anything but boring.   The Heather Grey Palmer Trousers are perfect for looking sharp on the course or at a cocktail party at the boss’s house.  Paired together, the polo and trousers are a guaranteed winning combo.
