The Bettinardi BB48 Fitz mid-mallet putter features design elements seen in Matt Fitzgerald’s tour winning putters. Wonderful, soft feel. Noteworthy roll and distance consistency.
Introduction
With three victories to date on this year’s PGA Tour, Matt Fitzpatrick is having what I’d call an impressive season. Golf geeks like me took notice of the low camera shots capturing “Bettinardi” as he rolled in some impressive putts during those wins. That’s why I wasn’t surprised to see Bettinardi release two putter models – the BB1 FF and the BB48 Fitz (also called the BB48-F) – based on Matt Fitzpatrick’s winning putter. As I learned performing background research on the Bettinardi BB48 Fitz, Matt was heavily involved with the design. And heavily might be an understatement. Could one of the new models help your putting game? I put the Bettinardi BB48 Fitz to the test.
Looks
While standard 2026 BB Series putters feature a beautiful Savannah Blue finish, the BB48 Fitz has what Bettinardi calls a TourTone finish – Black Armor and Diamond Blast. This combination gave Matt Fitzpatrick the defined topline that he required for alignment. The combination looks very similar to the TaylorMade SYSTM 2 putters I recently reviewed [see them HERE]. I really like the BB48-F’s thin sightline. To my eyes it communicates precision.
Another Fitzpatrick requirement was the distinctive semi-circular milling pattern on the face – not for the looks, but for the performance, which I’ll delve into in a moment. Turns out Matt had been using Yes! putters that featured arc faces since he was a teenager. The BB48-F version is a wonderful display of Bettinardi’s milling expertise.
And while on the topic of expert milling, I love the honeycomb pattern on the sole. From every angle, the Bettinardi BB48 Fitz is a great looking mid-mallet putter. I also have to give a tip of the cap to the exquisite stitching on the stock headcover. [See Price / Buy]
Sound & Feel
The deep face milling on the Bettinardi BB48 Fitz makes it one of the quietest and soft feeling putters in my recent memory. The sound change across the face was subtle but discernible, changing from a “tock” on center to a “tick” towards the toe and a “click” on the heel.
The soft feel was ever present, even with purposeful off-center contact. On short to mid-range putts the head remained stable, relegating tactile feedback to the torque encountered on long putts. While that lack of feedback through the hands may be a negative to some golfers, I’ll take the overriding wonderful feel all day, every day.
Performance
Two entries in my field notes summed up the performance of the Bettinardi BB48 Fitz putter: “beautiful roll” and “nice consistency.” My engineering brain went into testing thinking the semi-circular milling would put some sort of odd spin on the golf ball with off-centered contact, but that clearly wasn’t the case. Every putt had a beautiful end-over-end roll that started quickly off the face.
Having tested the similarly shaped Bettinardi BB49 [review HERE] earlier this year, I wasn’t surprised that the consistency of the BB48-F was good. I enjoyed seeing a group of balls I could toss my hat over when focused on delivering the same stroke length on 20 foot putts.
Speaking of strokes, the Bettinardi BB48 Fitz is face balanced and best suited for straight-back, straight-through putting styles. The 350 gram head weight and double-bend shaft combined to give me the sensation that the putter did not want to be manipulated – i.e. no arcing toe flow. [See Price / Buy]
Conclusion
With Bettinardi’s putter expertise and milling capabilities, I can sure see why Matt Fitzpatrick trusted them to produce tour worthy putters for him. The BB48 Fitz may not gain you a spot on any tour, but its consistency – both in roll and distance – may make you a better putter. [See Price / Buy]
