The Parlinx P-1 Waterproof golf shoe eschews traditional styling in an attempt to make the greatest golf shoe ever. They feature supreme comfort, extreme stability and features found nowhere else on the market. Parlinx takes a tech-first approach with clever engineering to make a “super shoe” in the golf space.

Introduction

Parlinx seems to have set out to disrupt the golf shoe market by ignoring tradition and setting the goal for a “Super Shoe” that does everything better. The long list of technology and clever design/engineering that has gone into the Parlinx P-1 Waterproof golf shoe is almost overwhelming. It’s as though every single idea that other brands have implemented into their golf shoes is present here, as well as a plethora of new innovation stuffed into a single model.

Such a big swing from a small boutique brand at a fairly premium price seems ambitious. I admit that many of the claims seemed a bit like snake oil at first, and I wondered if there would be a tangible benefit of all these features. Three of us at Plugged In Golf did a group test, each with our own pair of the P-1 Waterproof Golf shoes. For the most part, all three of us had very similar, positive results.

Looks

These shoes are not subtle in any way with a shape more like an athletic cross-training shoe than a golf shoe. Even the more modern athletic-style golf shoes are far more traditional looking than the Parlinx P-1 Waterproof golf shoes. They are tall on the ankle and busy visually, with the mix of layering and textures creating a look that has a lot going on.

The soles are transparent, showing both the carbon fiber sole as well as a large Parlinx logo. Their spikeless tread pattern is very aggressive and looks to provide more grip than most spikeless offerings.

The Parlinx P-1 Waterproof golf shoes also incorporate some interesting visual cues to aid in your play. What they call the Stance Validation toe-line colorway along the laces and tongue for visual alignment makes for a quick glance to check that your feet are pointed where you want them.

From the basic shape and the colorways offered to the vast mix of textures, patterns and detailing, the Parlinx P-1 Waterproof golf shoes are definitely a style that won’t suit everyone’s eye. The overall opinions from our team were mixed, from “would wear” to “not sure I could do it.”

Comfort

There is a lot to like about these shoes from the moment you put them on. For a shoe that is visually on the bulky side, the Parlinx P-1 Waterproof golf shoes feel lightweight in hand. The opening for your feet is generous, and putting them on is effort-free. These shoes run fairly true to size with a roomy toe box that accommodates wider feet quite well.

The Parlinx P-1 Waterproof immediately greets you with a bumpy nubbed insole that feels like a little foot massage. In addition to comfort, these nubs seem to hold your feet in place regardless of how tight the laces are tied. That insole also is heavily sculpted and supportive in the arch and around the perimeter. This did a great job of keeping our feet in place while swinging the club.

This Linx-Fit 2-density footbed insole is made of two layers of raised platforms with waffle channels to allow airflow underfoot. As a result, the Parlinx P-1 Waterproof golf shoes feel soft yet supportive and breathe well for people with hot feet walking the course.

Another feature that Parlinx notes is their Linx-Cell cushioning material made with high energy return that is more akin to a running shoe. The idea is you should feel less fatigue over the course of a round. We can all confirm that the Parlinx P-1 Waterproof golf shoes are among the most long-walk comfortable shoes on the market.

Performance

The ParLinx P-1’s performance story starts with the Stable-Linx system, which ParLinx says is built around biomechanics and the reality of the five-mile walk. The most interesting piece is the Linx-Launch carbon fiber plate. In running super shoes, carbon fiber plates can create a very noticeable springy sensation that almost pushes you forward. There could be a bit of concern here, as a golf shoe should not feel unstable or overly springy during the swing. We also didn’t want the carbon plate sensation making the shoe feel disconnected from the ground, but ParLinx found a reasonable balance.

There is some liveliness underfoot, but not so much that it compromises stability. We didn’t really notice any pop or boost of the claimed propulsion element as we walked, but the sole flexes and bends without resistance, making the tech here nearly invisible to the wearer.

Like the sole, the rest of the shoe focuses on free movement where you need it and extreme support where you don’t. The upper forefoot structure is built for lateral stability on any lie, and asymmetrical heel stabilizers ensure maximum stabilization during your swing. That feature is noticeable. The heel section gives the shoe a more secure, confidence-inspiring feel when turning through the ball.

In various spots around your foot, the Parlinx P-1 Waterproof golf shoes feature plastic extension blade panels that add structure Their purpose is to stop your feet from sliding or rolling over along the edges, keeping you upright and stable. When laced up snugly, these shoes hold onto your foot almost like a mid-height basketball shoe. These shoes are quite resistant to side to side forces yet remain flexible to walk in.

The Parlinx P-1 Waterproof golf shoes feature what the company calls their Linx-Trac proprietary outsole. The tread lugs are said to provide 3x the edge grip without tearing up the greens. This is indeed one of the more aggressive spikeless soles we have seen, but none of us found them as slip-free as advertised. In fact, our only real complaint about this shoe is the limited traction in dewy or damp conditions.

Sandwiched between the outer and inner portion of the shoe, the Parlinx P-1 Waterproof golf shoes feature their proprietary Hydra-Linx waterproof breathable membrane (similar properties to Gore-Tex). They offer protection from moisture while feeling surprisingly airy even in hot weather. Most of our testing period was done in a notable heat wave in the midwest. I won’t say that any shoes would feel cool in 100 degree weather, but the P-1 certainly didn’t feel as uncomfortably warm as many other waterproof shoes do in those conditions.

The combination of light weight, breathable comfort, extreme stability, and waterproofing is rare to be found all together in one shoe. Conclusion

These Parlinx P-1 waterproof golf shoes are fascinating. They very well may be the most tech heavy offering in the entire golf market. It’s as though Parlinx took every single tech story in the industry and combined them all into one “super shoe”. While this and the slightly unorthodox styling could have ended up something of a mess, they are genuinely terrific golf shoes we were all happy wearing for an 18 hole walk. There is a merging of the feel and function of a running shoe with golf performance that creates something unique.

The robust build quality and supreme comfort are worth the price alone, but the design and technology really offer something great. If you like the styling, these shoes are definitely more than the sum of their (many, many, many) parts. Tons of tech and thoughtful design choices work together extremely well and leapfrog over many more popular brand options on the course. Treat your feet and give them a look. [See Price / Buy]
