The 2023 Hero World Challenge Recap

Nassau, Bahamas – In the final individual PGA Tour event of 2023, Scottie Scheffler is the 2023 Hero World Challenge Champion.  Scottie’s win is his seventh PGA Tour victory and his third win in the 2023 season.

The Hero World Challenge is hosted by Tiger Woods alongside his foundation and held at Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas.  An obvious perfect place to be in December before the holidays, the invitational hosts 18 golfers who either won or reached other exemption status from the 2023 season to compete for FedEx Cup points.

The smaller field of players may feel like it’s easier to win but the 18 players make up some of the best ball strikers of the year.  Of course, this also includes playing alongside the greatest golfer of all time in Tiger.

Anyways, no one started off 2023 hotter than Scottie Scheffler, who started off the weekend by posting rounds of 69, 66, and 65.  This put Scottie on the pole position heading into Sunday.  The other hottest golfer in 2023 was Viktor Hovland who unfortunately started off slow with rounds of 73, 73, and 70.  His final round of 63 was the low round of the day and more like the Hovland we saw all year but it only vaulted him into a 10th place finish.

2022 US Open winner Matt Fitzpatrick made himself known with rounds of 70, 68, and 65 to get himself into sole second place heading into Sunday and only three shots back of first place. Despite a valiant effort of two under par final round, his score came up short and dropped down into a tie for fourth place.

2023 John Deere Classic winner Sepp Straka made a final round push with a 8 under 64 that was good enough for second place.

Scottie Scheffler’s final round of 4 under 68 was good enough to lap the field and provide a three shot victory.  The next PGA Tour event will be the Sentry Tournament of Champions held in Hawaii in January.
