COBRA® Golf Extends the Popular King MIM Wedge Family With New MIM Black Wedges in Standard and One Length Offerings

CARLSBAD, CA – COBRA® Golf, a leader in golf club innovation, unveiled today its new KING MIM Black Wedges, a fully Metal-Injection-Molded (MIM) 304 stainless steel head construction that is now offered in a glare-reducing QPQ (Quench Polish Quench) black finish.  The MIM process represents a significant advancement in wedge manufacturing, delivering the most precise shape possible for truly exceptional feel and turf interaction in every wedge COBRA manufactures.

Unlike cast wedges, MIM manufacturing reduces the amount of post-process polishing, where in the past, there was a heavy reliance on skilled machinists to grind consistent wedge shapes by hand.  Each wedge is created using a mixture of 304 stainless steel metal powder, which is then heated and injected into a mold.  Using a sintering process, the metal is heated to a higher temperature than forging (1340°C vs. 1200°C), resulting in a smoother grain flow structure versus forged and cast wedges, and the softest feel the industry’s ever seen.  The KING MIM Wedge family is the first in golf to utilize a fully robotic polishing process where the robot is pre-programmed to polish each wedge to exact specifications – a sharp contrast to the variability found in the traditional manual hand-polishing process.  This fully automated process eliminates variance in head weight and thickness and creates more precise grind shapes and more repeatable bounce in each wedge.

In addition to the MIM process and Fully Robotic Polishing process, the new KING MIM Black Wedges are constructed with the following game boosting technologies:

3 TOUR-INSPIRED GRINDS: All three grinds (Versatile, WideLow, and Classic) were co-designed with our Tour Department and tested by Rickie Fowler, Lexi Thompson and Bryson DeChambeau on Tour.

  • Versatile Grind: An excellent all-around grind for medium to firm course conditions.  Heel and toe relief provides versatility to play shots with an open face, while a center notch keeps the leading edge closer to the ground without adding effective bounce.
  • WideLow Grind: A wide, low bounce sole works its magic out of soft bunkers and turf conditions and medium rough and prevents the leading edge from digging.
  • Classic Grind: A medium-width sole with high bounce and trailing edge relief works well for neutral to steeper swings and a variety of course conditions.

Precision CNC Milled Face & Grooves – A fully CNC milled face maximizes surface roughness and delivers precise lofts and groove shapes to optimize trajectory and spin performance.

Radial CNC Milling Pattern – The circular milling pattern helps to maximize spin on softer shots where the ball doesn’t go as deep into the grooves.  In addition, the position of the radial milling pattern is intended to help golfers better identify the SWEET ZONE™ for puring their wedges.

Progressive Spin Technology™ – Progressive groove shapes are CNC milled to optimize performance for each wedge loft.  The weaker lofts feature wider, shallower grooves, and the stronger lofts feature narrower, deeper grooves to deliver consistent spin from wedge-to-wedge.

DURABLE BLACK QPQ FINISH: QPQ delivers a tour-preferred glare-resistant finish and maximum durability to improve groove life and wear over time.

COBRA CONNECT – The COBRA CONNECT, Powered by Arccos™ system features electronically enabled Lamkin Crossline Connect black grips that work in conjunction with the Arccos Caddie app to give users the ability to track their wedge stats, and learn their tendencies so they can practice more effectively.

COBRA Delivers Heightened Long Iron Performance With KING Utility Variable and One Length Offerings

CARLSBAD, CA – COBRA Golf®, a leader in golf club innovation, today introduced its new KING Utility irons, delivering improved distance with a classic look and modern technology. The KING Utility iron is designed for players who seek maximum control and precision on tee shots and longer approach shots on par 5’s. A classic, muscle-back iron shape delivers the feeling of controlled ball flights, while a wider sole and hollow body provides stability, power, and a low centered CG for trajectories that are high and penetrating.  A PWRSHELL™ face insert adds to the performance by expanding the sweet zone for improved ball speeds on off-center hits and launch efficiency for improved trajectory.

Normally only found in Metalwoods, COBRA engineers integrated into the Utility design the trusted COBRA MyFly8™ technology, a series of eight adjustable loft settings that give users the ability to manage trajectory and launch for proper distance gapping. Additionally, the KING Utility irons are geared with COBRA CONNECT™ Powered by Arccos Caddie, an artificial intelligence system that utilizes Smart Grips with embedded sensors to track and record distance and accuracy data on the Arccos Caddie app.  COBRA blends a classic design with cutting-edge engineering, including a hollow-body design, forged PWRSHELL Face, and Tungsten Weighting, to deliver superior performance that users can track and analyze using the in-depth data provided by the Arccos Caddie system.

The KING Utility is also offered in a ONE Length™ configuration, while sharing the technologies of its variable-length counterpart, is designed at 7-iron length (37.50”), making it a perfect complement to any of COBRA’S ONE Length iron offerings.  Having a constant length through the set promotes one repeatable set-up and swing for more consistency, while the head design and weighting are fine-tuned to provide uniformity of feel through the set.  Traditional variable-length players can also benefit from the consistency and accuracy of the ONE Length Utility iron.  After analyzing player test and GEARS test results, a shorter length has been shown to improve playability in the long irons and promote center contact for more precision.

TGA Golf Camps Provide Great Escape For Kids Nationwide

LOS ANGELES, CA – TGA Premier Sports (TGA), the go-to brand for introducing children to sports and the nation’s most prolific provider of in-school and community-based youth golf enrichment programs, is beginning to roll out its traditional, in-person summer golf camps in markets all across the country. As businesses, including golf courses and community centers, begin to open nationwide, TGA is stepping in to provide a timely solution for families who need quality, safe activities for their kids this summer.

As TGA navigates through these challenging times into what could become a new sports landscape, and with some team sports programs still being sidelined in markets, individualistic sports like golf are uniquely positioned for growth. With social distancing naturally built into it, the sport of golf will be pushed to the forefront as parents look for new sports activities for their kids. TGA is ready to introduce and teach them golf in a fun, engaging program.

TGA’s nationwide team of owners, coaches, and professional staff have been working hard implementing best practices for all camps including social distancing, sanitizing stations, no sharing of equipment, smaller groups, replacing handshakes with tip of the cap, no contact with flagsticks or other course equipment, as well as other ways to ensure a fun, safe environment for kids to learn golf’s core basics.

In every franchise market, TGA develops partnerships with local golf courses to create its Player Pathway program that includes participating in fun and competitive events including summer camps, parent-child clinics, junior programs, and leagues. Students have the opportunity to take what they learned in the enrichment programs and apply their new skills on the golf course. The camp programs include a similar curriculum as the after-school enrichment combining golf skill progression with academics (STEAM), life skills, and physical activity, as well as on-course activities and games.

SUMMER SESSIONS AT HOME
As of this past March, with schools shutting down across the country and kids at more than 3,000 schools nationwide unable to participate in TGA’s golf enrichment programs, the youth sports franchise quickly pivoted developing online “at home” content and now a new live virtual camp experience, Summer Sessions At Home. The new live virtual programs will be unveiled this month for camps and the upcoming fall school sessions. Parents who may not be ready or feel safe to have their children in camps yet will welcome these live virtual golf classes, delivering TGA’s same great content, making it easy for parents and fun for kids.
