18Birdies Latest Innovations Create 360° Golf Experience

18Birdies develops new mobile marketplace for golf

OAKLAND, CA – Mobile golf technology startup, 18Birdies, announced today that tee-time bookings are now available in the app through its partnership with GolfNow, which has over 8,000 courses worldwide using its tee-time and technology platforms. 18Birdies users will now be able to easily search and book tee times at any GolfNow course in the U.S., further providing them with an all-encompassing and modernized golf experience. Golf courses in the GolfNow database will benefit by being searchable and visible to the more than one million golfers using 18Birdies.

“Offering the ability to book tee times directly in the app lets us give golfers a more complete golf experience,” said 18Birdies founder and CEO, Eddy Lui. “Our mission remains to be the single app that lets users manage every aspect of their golf life.”

18Birdies also introduced strokes gained scoring in the app, giving users access to pro-level statistics currently being used on the PGA Tour. A free feature in the app, strokes gained gives users insight into specific parts of their game by showing them where they are losing or gaining strokes against players of similar skill levels. As part of strokes gained scoring, shot tracking will now be a free service making it a great alternative to expensive hardware-based shot tracking systems.

“This is just the first step in providing stat-hungry golfers with meaningful insights on their game,” said Lui. “In the coming weeks, we will be using the data that our users capture to provide them with insights to help determine areas of improvement and how they can gain strokes by bettering specific aspects of their game. We’ll also show them how they compare against other handicaps and give a complete breakdown of their game (off the tee, approach shots, around the green, putting, etc.).”

In addition to tee-time bookings and strokes gained scoring, 18Birdies also recently released several other updates including:

  • Apple Watch and Android Wear integration for GPS and score and stat-tracking
  • A player matching feature that lets users discover and connect with other golfers based on various criteria (location, age, skill level, etc)
  • A redesigned scoring page that brings the most common on-course activity onto one screen including GPS, stats, scoring, side games, targets, adding friends to a scorecard and adding photos and videos to a round

Since launching in 2016, 18Birdies has become the fastest-growing golf utility app. Its wide range of features includes a GPS rangefinder for more than 35,000 courses worldwide, score, round, side games and stat tracking, a variety of golf content from leading publishers and social sharing. The app also features a one-of-a-kind rewards program, DreamGames, which rewards golfers every day for just playing golf and was also recently recognized with an Editor’s Choice Award by GolfDigest and named a Webby Award Finalist for Best GPS Technology.
