The Blue Tees Player Pro golf speaker can be used both on and off the course. The crisp, high volume device offers audible distances for the greens and hazards in addition to AI-enabled recommendations that provide a caddie-like experience at an affordable price.
Introduction
You might be surprised to learn that Blue Tees has only been around since 2021. The amount of awards, notoriety, and general brand recognition they have received makes it seem like this company has been around for much longer. In this short time, Blue Tees has made waves in the golf technology industry. Their first product was a rangefinder, and the goal was simply to make it more affordable.
Only five years later, they have added an entire stable of products which includes the Blue Tees Player Pro golf speaker. I took this product out on the course with me to test out its features and see what kind of value this one can provide to the weekend golfer.
Set Up & Ease of Use
Getting started using the Blue Tees Player Pro is pretty simple. While the unit came half charged right out of the box, using a USB-C cable (included), it only took an hour to fully charge to 100%.
From there, one press and hold of the main button turned the device on. If you’ve used any sort of Bluetooth device with your phone, this connects in the same way. While I was able to immediately play music through the Blue Tees Player Pro speaker, in order to use any of the golf GPS features, Blue Tees requires users to download their (free) app. There is a paid subscription that most of the advanced features hide behind, but you can use the basic functions without one. I opted for the full subscription to maximize my experience.
Using the app, I was able to select and download the course I was playing. This took a few minutes and needed a good GPS signal. I didn’t like that I had to redownload the same course every time I played it. While I also could’ve skipped the download step, that limits some of the features while playing.
On the course, the built-in heavy-duty magnet attaches the Blue Tees Player Pro sturdily to the cart at eye level. This made swiping up, down, left and right on the screen easy. GPS was intuitive enough to jump to each hole automatically with readouts of approach distances whenever a player presses the main action button. [See Price / Buy]
Accuracy & Features
When I initially started my round, I was double checking yardages for accuracy and comparing permanent yardage markers to find out if there were any significant discrepancies. I was impressed that there was never more than a two yard difference. In fact, the Blue Tees Player Pro often matched up exactly to the yardage markers both in the fairway and on the tee. Even on longer holes measuring over 500 yards, the Player Pro had pinpoint accuracy as you can see in some of the photos.
In addition to its accuracy, Blue Tees offers a variety of features to help players navigate the course and make better decisions. One feature that I used most often was the markers for hazards.
I had to read the manual to understand the icons, but once I did, it was easy to determine distances to each hazard and what club I needed to carry them. If I needed more detailed information on the hazards or if I simply wanted to click an area of the fairway to give myself a certain yardage on the next shot, I had to open and use the app on my phone.
My favorite feature is the main action button. While you can customize this to read out whatever you choose, such as distance to the center of green or a simple club recommendation, I chose it to read out the AI-enabled information. When pressed, it provided the “playing like” distance which took into account wind, terrain, and any other factors to recommend not only a club but a strategy to hit it close. It was fun to have the Player Pro explain what to expect on my next shot while I was pulling a club from my bag. My playing partners started asking for its recommendation for their shots as well.
The more I used the Blue Tees Player Pro, the smarter it became. After a few rounds of keeping score, tracking stats, and recording club selections, Blue Tees was able to offer deeper insights into my game and make even more insightful club recommendations on the course. Using the “Scout AI” tool, it felt like I had a coach walking me through every shot on the course.
Whether it was reading out club recommendations, distances, or just playing music, the speaker quality itself blew me away, literally. The sound was crisp and could get extremely loud if needed. Even if you wanted to forego the golf features, this speaker makes the Blue Tees Player Pro worth the investment.
Value
The Blue Tees Player Pro golf speaker comes in at $199 and, as of this writing, is marked down to $179 on their website. While they do have a $79 annual upgraded subscription cost, it isn’t required to use the basic golf GPS functionality. In addition, Blue Tees is offering a free six month trial when you purchase a Player Pro.
Considering the impressive quality of speaker, and all the GPS functionality, this a massive value for the price. If you compare this to any competitors, the $179 can’t be beat. There are other products that do less for less money but even if you were looking for a high quality speaker to use on or off the course, the Blue Tees Player Pro golf speaker should get a long look.
