The Ghost Golf Anyday golf bag has a premium look, standout style, and a unique array of pockets. Two different top choices and two straps. Good stand, but heavier weight makes it best for push or riding carts.
Introduction
For the majority of my golfing life, golf bags were designed to be mobile billboards: huge branding splashed across the side, turning golfers into walking advertisements. In the last few years, however, the pendulum has swung back the other way. Almost every new bag is minimalist with very little branding…or personality.
Ghost Golf aims to find a middle ground, giving their designs character without going over the top. And, of course, aiming for superior on-course functionality. I tested the Ghost Golf Anyday golf bag to see if this is the future of golf bags.
Looks
Made from “Premium PU Leather,” the Ghost Golf Anyday golf bag shares a material similarity with all of the lux, premium carry bags from brands like Vessel [Vessel Player V review HERE]. The color palette is similar as well, focused on staple tones like black, white, and navy. But that’s where the similarities end.
Unlike all of the bags with minimalist, IYKYK branding, Ghost Golf wants you to know this is a Ghost Golf bag. You’re buying this, at least in part, for the style. That starts with moderately sized Ghost Golf logos on both sides of the bag and a small one on the back. The front of the bag and straps also have “GHOST” in large, high contrast letters. But the most standout feature is the pair of red “Play Fearlessly” tags on each side, Ghost Golf’s signature feature. The tags can be changed out to red tags that say “Ghost” or black tags for those that prefer to keep things a little more subtle. Those extra tags are included.
The Ghost Golf Anyday golf bag comes in eight colorways, all with cool (if not particularly descriptive) names like Valor (shown here) and Maverick. They are all some combination of white, black, navy, and grey. At the time of this writing, there are also two US Air Force inspired editions: Dogfight Striker and Dogfight G-Suit. [See Price / Buy]
Features
The back of the Ghost Golf Anyday golf bag has pockets similar to what you’ll find on most stand bags. There’s a magnetic pocket above a large ball pocket. The magnetic pocket is velvet-lined to keep your rangefinder or GPS scratch-free, and the ball pocket can hold three dozen balls without any issue. There are also water bottle sleeves on either side of the ball pocket. Each one has a bungee cord to keep your bottle from falling out while you’re walking.
Turning to the bag’s right side, things get unusual. There’s no full-length apparel pocket. Instead, there’s another insulated water bottle sleeve on top of a mid-sized zipper pocket. On top of that larger zippered area is the “Personal Pocket.” This pocket is velvet-lined and waterproof for keeping your valuables safe. Finally, there’s a pen holder next to the larger zippered opening.
Because of this unorthodox pocket layout, there’s no need for a strap pass through – the cart strap doesn’t interfere with any of the pockets.
The left side of the bag is an exact replica of the right side, sans the pen holder. This is a pretty stark break from tradition, but the more I think about it, the more I like it. Unless you’re carrying a full rain suit, the giant apparel pocket is a lot of wasted space. With the set up on the Ghost Golf Anyday golf bag, you can still tote a rain suit if you want to, but you have more flexibility and accessibility for everyday things like tees, sunscreen, and snacks. This mirrored set up also allows righties and lefties to carry the Anyday golf bag with equal comfort and accessibility.
Ghost Golf continues to go above and beyond with features and accessories, including a glove holder, carabiner, D-ring, and umbrella holder. The Ghost Golf Anyday golf bag also includes a rubber bag tag that can serve as a putting target, a ball marking stencil, and a marker.
Finally, I want to shout out the Ghost Golf magnetic towel. Measuring 18″ x 18″, it’s an ideal, useful size – not a handkerchief nor a beach towel. The “premium microfiber” holds 400% its weight in water, and the waffle weave does a great job cleaning your clubs with minimal elbow grease. The key feature is the sewn-in magnet that allows you to stick it to your cart or pick it up with your club head or the included metal grip cap.
Performance
The Ghost Golf Anyday golf bag has one of my favorite features or options of any stand bag: two different tops. There’s a 7-way top with three full-length dividers and a 14-way top with 14 full-length dividers, both measuring 9″ X 11″. As you can see above, I tested the 7-way top and found it ideal for keeping my clubs organized. Yes, the OCD part of me loves a 14-way top, but with just one to three clubs per section, the 7-way makes accounting for your sticks almost as easy. The three full length dividers do a good job minimizing grip tangle and pull out difficulty.
Two other things elevate the top of the Ghost Golf Anyday golf bag. First, the dividers are velvet-wrapped. This is much gentler on your expensive graphite shafts that traditional dividers. No one wants to see a wear mark near the tip of their Diamana. The other nice feature is the large putter well, sized to handle grips of all shapes and sizes.
Turning to weight, the Ghost Golf Anyday golf bag is a hybrid bag, listed at 6.5 pounds. The stand makes it viable for walking, but it’s a bit too heavy to be considered a full-time carry bag. My Anyday weighed 7 pounds without a strap, almost 8 with a strap. Ghost Golf’s website indicates that the Anyday weighs the same with either top configuration, but I find that a bit hard to believe. That said, I don’t think it matters. Bags in this weight range are best on a push or riding cart.
When you do carry the Anyday, Ghost Golf makes it comfortable with heavily padded straps. Everything from the spine handle to the backpack straps to the single strap has thick cushioning and premium materials that make it a pleasure to tote around. The straps are attached to the bag with four plastic clips, allowing you to change from backpack to single strap in seconds. I found myself using the single strap most of the time since I was using the Anyday primarily on carts.
Finally, the Ghost Golf Anyday golf bag has a strong base and stand system. The base is made from a slightly softer rubber which does a good job staying in place regardless of where you set it down. It bends to activate the stand, which is my preferred mechanism. This system keeps more of the base in touch with the ground – good for stability – and is much more durable than a footplate.
The legs on the Ghost Golf Anyday golf bag are carbon fiber, and they snap in and out with appropriate force. Ghost Golf smartly put a strip of leather where the legs snap back into the bag, and the bungee cord leg restraints work very well. [See Price / Buy]
Conclusion
When I first unboxed the Ghost Golf Anyday golf bag, I loved the look. As I spent more time with it, I realized that this bag has a lot more than style. It’s loaded with smart features, including some that buck conventional golf bag design. At $415, it’s definitely a premium option, but it earns that price with its combination of style and substance.
