Sunday Golf Coaster Travel Bag Review

50 Words or Less

The Sunday Golf Coaster travel bag is large enough to tote any type of golf bag.  Interior and exterior straps to keep your clubs secure.  Clever features like a removable, compressible apparel cube make it smarter than your average travel bag.

Introduction

Travel bags and rain suits have a lot in common.  They’re fairly expensive, you don’t use them that often, they aren’t really fun to buy or shop for, but they can make or break your golf trip.  The Sunday Golf Coaster Travel Bag aims to keep your trip on the rails while also adding a couple novel features to make your packing and traveling experience a bit better.

Looks

The Sunday Golf Coaster Travel Bag is a black travel bag.  I like the embroidered grey Sunday Golf logo at the top of the bag, but that’s not what will drive your buying decision here.  If you want to give this bag a kick, the front panel of the large pocket is removable and could possibly be embroidered (Sunday Golf doesn’t advertise this, so try it at your own risk), but ultimately travel bags are about function, not form.

Features

Here’s where the Sunday Golf Coaster Travel Bag aims to separate itself from the competition.  First, on the inside of the bag, there’s a small zippered pocket (above).  I thought that this was for storing a luggage lock, but then I realized that it’s an AirTag pocket (in truth it could be both).  This is a clever little feature that every traveling golfer should use.  An AirTag is the cheapest peace of mind and club insurance that you can buy.

The other smart feature is the compressible, zip-off apparel cube.  As you can see above, there are three zippers: the top one opens the cube, the middle one allows it to expand, and the bottom one attaches it to the Coaster.

Unless you like lugging extra bags, using your travel case for clothing is a must.  The cube keeps your clothes neat and organized rather than strewn all over the inside of the bag where your whitest shirt will inevitably meet your dirtiest club.  You can stash shoes up to size 14 in this cube along with enough clothes for at least a long weekend, possibly more.

Performance

Moving on the the main function, the Sunday Golf Coaster Travel Bag is big enough to hold any type of golf bag.  Above you see it packed with the Sunday Golf Storm Ryder [review HERE], and it can hold a large cart bag just as easily.  There are two sets of straps – one interior, one exterior – to keep your bag securely in place regardless of its size.

The top portion of the bag has thick padding to protect your club heads.  This is a good start to having your clubs arrive safe and sound, but you should always follow the tips I outlined HERE such as removing any detachable heads prior to flying and using a Stiff Arm or broomstick.

Weighing in at 9.25 pounds, the Sunday Golf Coaster Travel Bag leaves you 40 pounds for your clubs, balls, shoes, and apparel.  If you pack your bag to the limit, you’ll appreciate Sunday Golf’s inclusion of five handles around the Coaster.  Moving this fully loaded bag through my house, up and down stairs, and in and out of my car, I always had a place to grab that would give me appropriate leverage for lifting.

Finally, Sunday Golf built the Coaster to last.  The smooth rolling wheels feel solid, not brittle.  The polyester exterior is tough, and the handles are thick.  Sunday Golf also added plastic on the base and long sliders on the lower back to absorb the punishment in the most-abused spots.

Value

The Sunday Golf Golf Coaster Travel Bag retails for $360 but is on sale for $325 at time of this writing.  Please consider supporting Plugged In Golf by buying it HERE.

At $325, the Coaster is $25 to $75 less than the Club Glove’s travel bags [Club Glove Last Bag review HERE], neither of which has the apparel cube.  The Coaster also comes with Sunday Golf’s lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship making it a solid value.

Conclusion

A travel case is never going to rival a new putter or driver for excitement, but having a safe way to tote your clubs will make every trip more enjoyable.  If you’re about to head out on new golf adventures, consider the Sunday Golf Coaster Travel Bag as your new companion.
