The 2026 Srixon ZXi5 irons offer incredible performance and forgiveness in a club head that looks like it was designed for a scratch golfer.
Introduction
In its 2026 line, Srixon has three models of irons, the ZXi7, ZXi5, andย the ZXi5+.ย Srixon describes the 2026 Srixon ZXi5 irons as a Playerโs Performance Iron that falls right in between the ZXi7, which is a Playerโs Iron, and the ZXi5+ which is a Playerโs Distance Iron.ย What could โPlayerโs Performanceโ actually mean?ย What type of performance is Srixon going for in this iron?ย Who is it for?ย Find out in this review.
Looks
At address, the 2026 Srixon ZXi5 irons look nearly identical to the ZXi7s [review HERE].ย This is a tremendous compliment.ย The blade length and offset look the same.ย The top line looks slightly bigger in the ZXi5.ย ย
As Iโve been fit for irons over the years, whenever I have tried something in the category that would be considered โPerformanceโ I can never get along with the look of the club behind the ball.ย They seem chunky, or the blade length is too long, or the top line is too big.ย They feel more like a shovel than a precision instrument.ย That is not the case with the ZXi5s.ย When I was comparing the irons, I grabbed what I thought was a ZXi7, and only realized it was a ZXi5 after seeing the distance jump.
Among irons I’ve seen, the ZXi5s are be 2026โs version of โbig things come in small packages.”ย The compact head is much more in line with what you would expect from a player’s iron than you would a game improvement iron.ย The performance that came out of a club head this size is very impressive.
As we have come to expect with Srixon, the irons have the Tour V.T. sole.ย The back cavity is a mix of satin and chrome, and the branding is minimal.ย There is nothing flashy or gimmicky about the look of the irons.ย Their minimalist look feels like it is appealing to a golfer who would love to play a blade iron but doesnโt quite have the game for it. Sound & Feel
Srixon describes the new line of ZXi irons as โFeel Perfected.โย Do we have to hold them accountable in case they say their 2027 irons have better feel?ย Iโll leave that job to the reader.ย All jokes aside, the 2026 Srixon ZXi5 irons offer feel and feedback that is unexpected for an iron marketed to this level of player.ย Center strikes feel so soft it’s like the ball isnโt there.ย As the strike gets further from the center the feel gets more harsh as the vibrations pick up.ย Itโs only enough feedback to let you know you mishit the ball and not enough to ever feel a stinging sensation in your hands.ย ย
The sound is a soft โshookโ sound.ย Itโs not clicky like some game improvement irons, and itโs not a low pitched thud found in a blade iron.ย On mishits, the sound gets more clicky and sharp, but itโs all in service of offering the appropriate amount of feedback.
Srixonโs Senior Product Manager Casey Schultz says โFrom the materials we use to the way each head is forged, shaped, and weighted, every decision was made with feel in mind.ย It’s the hallmark of Srixon Irons and something we’ve always refused to compromise on.โย As I tested the 2026 Srixon ZXi5 irons, and the other irons in this line, I can confidently say that this is not just marketing speak.ย The feel and the sound on center strikes and all sorts of mishits make it seem like the irons were fine tuned to offer the perfect balance of feel and feedback for the player.
Performance
While the looks of the ZXi5 are similar to the ZXi7, the performance of each iron was notably different.ย The 2026 Srixon ZXi5 irons have noticeably higher ball speeds than the ZXi7s.ย For most of the irons, there is one degree of loft difference between the two models, but the ZXi5s flew about one club farther than the ZXi7s.ย The spin rate is medium to medium high.ย With the added distance I never had trouble with the ball holding the green.
2026 Srixon ZXi5 irons have a lot of forgiveness.ย I really had to have a bad mishit for the ball to end up shorter than my intended target.ย That added distance and forgiveness did cost me some control.ย If I slightly closed the face or de-lofted the club in a swing, the ball would jump off the club and go a few yards farther than I was hoping it would go.ย
The Tour V.T. Sole helps the playability of the irons over a variety of lies.ย The irons never felt heavy or clunky getting through the turf.ย Whether it be the compact shape of the head, the top line, or the sole, I was consistently surprised and impressed with the performance that came out of a club looking as good as this.
Srixon has made the ZXi5s easy to combine with the ZXi7s.ย You can use the ZXi7s in the shorter irons and the ZXi5s in the longer irons.ย I understand this rationale, but the more time I spend with the ZXi5, I see them working nicely as a complete set rather than mixing and matching.ย If you insist on a combo set, and are starting with the ZXi5s, ask yourself if thereโs a certain club at which you want a little bit more workability from shot shape or trajectory.ย That would be the club to switch over to the ZXi7.
Overall, the 2026 Srixon ZXi5 irons are a perfect fit for someone who feels like they need to hit their irons a little bit further.ย They are also a great choice for someone working on their game or who wants to upgrade from a starter or game improvement set of clubs.ย For this player, they will love the feel and not notice a significant performance drop off.ย ย [See Price / Buy]
Conclusion
If I had to blindly tell someone to buy an iron set knowing nothing about their game, I would say the 2026 Srixon ZXi5 irons are the answer.ย The high ball speed and strong forgiveness make them fit a wide range of players.ย The forged feel gives feedback that is important for any golfer serious about improving their game.ย Whether you are trying to break 90 for the first time or a golfer looking to get back a little distance, the 2026 Srixon ZXi5 irons will not disappoint.ย [See Price / Buy]
Condensed Forging stretching from the high-toe area and along the topline of the Iron blade enhances overall strength, durability, and feel. Then the forged faces on ZXi5 are softened to improve this already exceptional feel.

Hi, nice review! I’m looking to upgrade my Srixon zx5 mk ii, currently playing of 15 but looking to get down to single digit next year! 27 years, and swing speed with 7 iron is around 85-90 mph. My iron play is good, but unsure if it is “good enough” for the ZXI7’s, what would you suggest? Custom fitting is not a possibility where I live unfortantly…
Hi Sander! You’ve got a lot of options here… I think you’ll like the compact head shape and forgiveness of the current ZXi5, so whatever you decide should be a nice upgrade. The question of the ZXi7 or ZXi5 comes down to this: with your current set, is there a certain iron you would prefer more control and workability at the expense of some distance and forgiveness? If the answer is “all of them” then the ZXi7 could be the answer. I think a scratch golfer and single digit could play either club, it just depends what they are looking for.
Someone has to ask so I may as well be the one. It sounds like the new ZXI5s are bit more compact than the previous generation, are you seeing any performance improvements? I love my ZXI5s, but of course there is always that temptation for the newest thing.
Hi Dan – I LOVE a compact head shape in my irons, so I’m a bit biased here. I would say the compact shape helps performance as it gets through the turf better and looks better at address. I haven’t been able to test the previous generation, but I would guess that a lot of it is just fine tuning a great club – so upgraded looks, feel, feedback, etc. Maybe there is some performance gain since last year, but you would have to test them out.
Attended a Srixon fitting event last weekend and had a chance to compare the new irons (7, 5. 5+). Ended up ordering a set of 5s as my distance, launch, descent and dispersion were excellent. At most I gave up a yard compared to the 5+ and subjectively the 5s sounded better and felt better than the 5+. I hit the 7s well also and could have played them but not getting any younger and the added forgiveness and distance of the 5s made my decision easy.
Sounds great! I am happy it made your decision easy.. That is a lot of what I like about these clubs, they could all be played by a similar skilled player, it just depends what that person is looking for and needs in their game.
Is that last picture of the ZXi5 showing damage on the back? Pretty itโs not supposed to look like that is it? The Plastic decal doesnโt look correct?
It is a shadow.
Definitely don’t *need* to update my 2024 ZXi7/5 combo set, but excited to check these out just for fun. Interesting you were hitting the new i5 a club farther than the i7. I found for the originals that I was hitting the i5 and i7 basically the same distance on pure strikes, with the i5 only maybe occasionally a yard or two further but being more forgiving with a little more ball speed retention on less-than-perfect strikes.
An upgrade from P790’s?
