The Srixon ZXi RKT fairway woods are incredibly high performing clubs that offer amazing distance.  They have ball speeds and efficiency that can keep up with any driver- yes, driver- out there.

Introduction

The new Srixon ZXi RKT Driver is the longest and straightest driver I have ever had the chance to hit [review HERE].  The Srixon ZXi RKT fairway woods are equally impressive in terms of distance and accuracy.  Over the years, Srixon’s irons [ZXi7 Review HERE] have gained a strong reputation and following.  This year, Srixon’s woods have caught up, and need to be considered among the best out there.

Looks

At address, the Srixon ZXi RKT fairway woods have a traditionally shaped head with a matte black crown.  The crown has a carbon fiber pattern.  The back edge of the crown has a raised textured stripe that adds some detailing to an otherwise classic looking club head.  Like the driver, there is an “S” Srixon logo used for the alignment aid.

There is a shiny black triangle covering a majority of the sole of the club.  There is one adjustable weight in the center.  The weight has a red outline, and this is the only color on the entire club.

The scoring lines are silver, which allows you to easily see the face at address.  I always prefer this look in a fairway wood, as it helps me see the loft on the club, and I don’t feel the need to help the ball get up in the air.

The face of the Srixon ZXi RKT fairway woods have the words “RKT FACE” on the toe of the club in between the top two grooves.  It seems generally Srixon is trying to be as minimal as possible with the looks of their clubs, so this is notable.  The new face is very high performing, so it makes sense for Srixon to call attention to it. Sound & Feel

Srixon writes that its Zxi RKT wood line is engineered for power with a finely tuned acoustic signature.  The Srixon ZXi RKT fairway woods have a medium pitched percussive sound at impact.  The sound stays quite similar across the face.  It gets a little more tinny sounding as contact gets to the edges of the club face.

The feel of the Srixon ZXi RKT fairway woods is firm and powerful.  They are designed with a Rebound Frame that “amplifies energy transfer at impact” by utilizing two flex zones instead of just one.  This comes through in the feel of the club, as it feels like the ball flies quickly off the face.

Performance

The ball speed and distance in the Srixon ZXi RKT fairway woods is incredibly high.  In my testing I routinely hit shots with a smash factor of 1.50.  This is the most efficient a club can get, and is just as high of a number as I was getting with the ZXi RKT driver.  At a clubhead speed around 101 mph I was seeing ball speeds above 150 mph.

The RKT face of the fairway woods have a “variable roll design,” which “maximizes accuracy on misses and suppresses hooks on high toe strikes.”  Similar to the driver, the Srixon ZXi RKT fairway woods fly incredibly straight.  Whether the ball was hit straight, right, or left, the ball took a straight path to get there.  The variable roll design definitely helps the toe strikes stay straight.  The heel strikes would always fade off to the right.

In addition to the ball staying straight, the ball speed stays high on mishits.  These fairway woods are very forgiving in terms of distance and accuracy.

It was a challenge for me to try to get the ball to curve with the Srixon ZXi RKT fairway woods.  I had many club face and club path combinations that usually result in the ball curving, but with these I found the ball always wanted to stay straight.

I tested the 15 degree 3 wood with the Mitsubishi Kai’li Dark Waves Blue shaft.  The spin and launch were low for a 3 wood.  The spin averaged around 3,000 rpm and the launch was around 10 degrees.  This resulted in a few “wow” shots, where the total distance was unexpected.  I had one shot on the launch monitor that had a club speed of 101, the spin was 2,250 rpm, the carry 250 was yards, and the total distance was 280 yards.  This is not necessarily a shot I am looking to hit out on the course, but it speaks to the capabilities of the club.

With the launch and spin being rather low, the Srixon ZXi RKT fairway wood worked great as a second club off the tee, or as the second shot on a par 5 where I wanted to send the ball up near the green as far as possible.  It didn’t get the ball quite high enough to be reliable for a shot that I wanted to land and stay on the green. It’s more of a rocket launcher than a sniper rifle. [See Price / Buy]

Conclusion

The Srixon ZXi RKT fairway woods is a top of the line club.  In a fitting these need to be tested alongside every other fairway wood on the market.  The ball speed, forgiveness, and accuracy are elite.  The looks are impressive.  The feel and sound are premium.  For me, the spin and launch were low, so it would be better as a club for maximum distance rather than precision into greens.  If I had more loft or a different shaft this 3 wood would be ideal.
