Test the Nippon Modus Hybrid HL Shaft
First released six years ago, the Nippon Modus Hybrid shaft has become a go-to for players who want to tighten their dispersion, including the current World #1. New for 2025, Nippon is expanding this franchise to include the Modus Hybrid HL for players who want that same consistency with higher launch.

Always have loved Modus shafts -currently Modus120S in my irons and 125W for wedges. I tried the original GOST in a utility but disappointingly didn’t love it, would love to try this version especially as I am considering dropping some shaft weight. The 4utility I would put this in currently has the Modus120 in it.
Thanks!
Ben Davis, 7.2HCP and currently go back and forth between the Titleist 818h1 21* and the TSR1 20* heads.
William Elliott, 16 handicap. Titleist GT1 4 hybrid

Currently using tsr2 3hy turned up to a4 to try and reclaim some of the height I’ve lost with my current shaft tensei 1k black in stiff.
Hopefully this could be a good option as I liked the feeling of a demo of the original gost in a 2 iron (flew too low and wasn’t skilled enough to ever think of putting in the bag)
I’d love to test this! My name is Seth Herrera and I am a 15 handicap and play a G430 4 hybrid
Michael Wagner, gaming a Callaway Paradym AI Smoke 18º 3hy and sitting at a 13.8 handicap. Current hybrid has an Accra GX green so I’d love to see how it compares to this sweet Modus shaft
I play a 23* Titleist TS3 and am a 4.9
I currently play Modus 3 120’s in my irons, 50* and 54*. I didn’t know they had specialty hybrid shafts
My name is McKenzie Hornung and I have a 15 handicap. I play a cobra ltdx hybrids and would love to try the new modus hybrid shaft
My name is Minh Nguyen and color me interested. I’m a 7.0 handicap and love my hybrids. I carry a 4h and 5h, both are 21 Apex Standard Hybrids. They cover any distance from 170 to 205 yards. Both have the original Ventus Blue 7s shaft.

Clark Reilly, 12.1 handicap playing Apex 21 3&4 hybrids with MMT 80X shaft
Josh. I shoot around 40 for nine holes. Callaway Ai smoke 4 hybrid.
Have tried modus 115 in a wedge with much greenside success.
I have been following some reviewers on several forums about this shaft. I currently play a Callaway Apex Hybrid 3 and feel I could benefit greatly from the Nippon Modus in trajectory/distance. My handicap is currently 9.
Brian – handicap 9.3.
I play a ping G440 20 degree with a Denali 80 gram stiff shaft.
I would love to compare these shafts.
Bill Hotalen. 5.1. Current hybrid(s). Sub 70 949x pro hybrids 4 & 5. I am inconsistent with my hybrids and have tried two different shafts. I can hit them long but fight the left. I would like to try these and I think I could give a good comparison
Ryan Ashley, 3.0 handicap, Rogue ST Pro 2H & Adams XTD Super Hybrid. I play Modus 105 stiff in my irons.
Would love to try this shaft, name – Bradd Forstein, currently have Ping G425 hybrids in 3 & 4 Hybrid (mostly play the 4) and I also have a 3 Utility Iron from New Level (3i). My current index is 6.2. Current shafts in Hybrids are Graphite Design HY X Flex, they were custom fit by True Spec so the exact model is a mystery. My ball flight is historically low with all my clubs but used to game Modus 120x in the irons, now playing graphite UST Elements Recoil x Flex and love them.
Shane, current handicaps 2.3. Play Callaway super hybrid and Titleist tsi hybrid
Would like to test it.

Sure, I’d love to write a comprehensive review.
Let’s try it on a club of mine that could really use some launch: Ping G430 2-Hybrid. 17°. It currently has an Accra TZ6 Driving Iron shaft, 5-flex, 95 grams per the spec, and a total overall length 1/2″ over standard at 41 1/4″.
I’ve also a Titleist TSR2 4-hybrid, but I can already get that one high enough, even with a MCA Tensei 1K Hybrid Black 95X. It’s also 1/2″ over standard.
My name is George Fetters, Jr., and my current handicap is 18.6. Thanks for the opportunity.
I would appreciate trying the new club. I currently am a 10 handicap and former PGA member. I currently play hybrids from Titleist, Callaway and VLS….Which one gets to be the gamer varies from day to day.
Ian Anderson, 6 hcp. Current hybrid is Titleist TSR2.

I currently play Ping g440 #4 hybrid .. handicap is 18 so always looking to improve!
I’d like to try…HC index 6.4…current hybrid is a callaway AI Smoke 19 deg.

Hey Matt,
Brandon here, I’m a 12.1 handicap and I currently game a Srixon ZX MkII 3-hybrid with a Ventus Blue HB 8S shaft. It’s my go-to for tight tee shots, playing a low runner when I need to find the fairway, but I can launch it high when needed for coming into the green. I average about 220-240 yards with it depending on the shot.

Would be honored to experience the Nippon Modus HL shaft. My GHIN is 14.3 (Course Handicap is 11.0) and I currently have Titleist TSR1 23*, 26* and 29* hybrids in my bag, as well as a Ping 440 HL 34*. Too many headcovers I know. I also have a 20* TSR1 but I struggle with getting adequate launch so it is in the garage currently. Cheers.
I’ll be your huckleberry 😎
7 handicap. Callaway Epic Elyte 5H
Thanks for the opportunity, Matt.
I play two PXG hybrids, but I would like to try this shaft in my Gen 6 0311x, #4 hybrid at 22 degrees. I have the Mitsubishi Tensei AV X-Link Blue Hybrid 75 S in it. I was fitted into it a couple of years ago.
(FYI, I recently bought a Black Ops #5 hybrid at 25 degrees with the Accra iS8 in stiff. I absolutely love this combo. As I have gotten older – 59 – I have had to trade my irons for hybrids due to my delivery mechanics – too low launch, not enough peak height.)
I am currently at a 3.2 index.
I am a 22.5 handicap and play a Ping G430 4H with Alta CB R shaft. I really like the club and hit it well in terms of distance, but the trajectory is too low! I have played Nippon shafts in the past in irons and am a fan of the company. Flirted recently with going to their lightweight iron shafts in the Neo line but couldn’t get properly fit.
Cody Makin. Current handicap is 0.9 and I currently play a Titleist TSR2 4/21 degree hybrid with a Ventus Blue 9X shaft and will swap it out depending on weather/course conditions for a Titleist T250U 3 iron with a HZRDUS Black 5G 90 X-Stiff shaft.
My Name is Seth Hudson and I have a 9 handicap. I have a Callaway Apex UT 21-degree utility iron in my bag but the steel, 6.5 Project -X shaft in it makes it feel like I’m swinging a railroad tie. I have always needed to swap it out with a new shaft. Thank you.
Interested. I play off a 11hcp currently. I have a Taylormade P-UDI “Stinger Squad” utility iron that I don’t intend to fuss with, but this shaft could be good for my older PXG XF 3-Hybrid that currently has a XS/6.5 hazrdus Smoke Black shaft.

Love my hybrid and shaft but I am eager to gain more height and stopping power on the green.
I currently play Titleist TSI with Project X 5.5 smoke 18 degree. While dispersion control is fine, height minimizes distance on softer fairways. Would love to have more height without sacrificing distance so would like to demo the Nipon model.
I would be interested in trying this shaft. Anything to have more reliability in my hybrids would be a bonus. Randy Wilson. Currently a 15 handicap playing Taylormade QI 35 hybrids.
Dino Vozikis. I am a 6 handicap. just got a Titleist GT1 5 hybrid. would like 2 get more launch and would love to try the shaft
Mike Gulas, 20 handicap. I need a higher launching shaft for my Juggernaut 4H which is 22 degrees. I need more carry than roll.
Play Titleist TSI1 24* hybrid. Would like to give the shaft a try.

12. TSR2 w/Tour AD IZ-65 (R-2) shaft.
Mike – HC 5. I play the TSR2 18 degree with a Hzrdus black 6.0. I find that in some cases, lie, rough, side hill, down hill stance can “greatly” impact the launch, peak height, trajectory as we should expect. However, it can be very dramatic, consistency/predictability issues. As I get older, I need predictability, hoping this shaft will give me predictability, no low rockets or low draws. I want to know the yardage and shot window, the more guessing, the more panic on the downswing.
I’m 86 years old and play to a 16 handicap. I use a 20.5 degree Cleveland 588 Gliderail hybrid with the stock Matrix Ozik Altus A-Flex shaft. I have a slow swing speed and need all the help I can get in launching my shots higher. Hoping the Nippon Modus Hybrid HL shaft will do the job.
Name’s Willie T. I play a G400 “non-adjustable” 3h to a 13.4 handicap…what a great opportunity you’re providing the Plugged In readers….Good luck to all who enter.
Dan Neubecker, 2 handicap. It would be my pleasure to test this shaft in one of my two Ping g430 hybrids (3 and 4)
Bryan Tandoc. I’m currently a 15 hdcp gaming a PXG 0317 XF Gen 4. Would love to try a new shaft since I’m using the stock shaft that came with my order years ago. Thanks!
I play Ping G425 3 and 4 Hybrid with Modus3-105 steel shafts. I am looking for something that has a higher flight. Would love to give this shaft a try. Thank you very much.

Would love to try one. Current hybrids are PXG gen 5 22 and 25 degree. Index 12. Thanks
I consider my hybrids my ‘go to’ clubs and reason for my lifetime low 14 HCP. I would like to try the Modus Hybrid HL in my Callaway Paradym Star 6 hybrid to see if we can evolve it into a SUPER magic stick!
I would also be interested. Currently play a Callaway apex UW 19 (original version) in a hzrdous black. I am a 14 handicap. Thank you.

I have a TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus 3-iron Hyrbid Rescue. It’s currently shafted with a Hzrdus RDX Smoke 6.0 80g mid spin shaft. I know it’s an old club 😂 but I can hit a nice little “butter cut” with it consistently. It allows me to, after a good drive along with a favorable lie and wind conditions, to go for a par 5 in two with confidence. Currently, I’m a 9.7 handicap.
Hi there,
Bruce T. here and I’m very Interested in trying this Nippon shaft!
As 10 handicap, I’m using Taylor Made Stealth 22 degree (4) Hybrid Fujikura Ventus Red Regular
Tom C. Currently an 8.8 and I play a Mizuno Pro Fli-Hi 3 iron. I have it shafted with a VENTUS black hybrid shaft but would love to give this one a shot

Hello,
I’m Todd and I have a 6 handicap. I play a Srixon MkII #3 hybrid iron with a KBS C-Taper 130 X shaft. Would like to compare the Nippon graphite on steel to see if the HL shaft will create a higher launch and softer landing on long approach shots as opposed to the KBS in the club now. As well would like to see how the feel and weight compares to my current gamer.
My name is Jyoti and my handicap is 26. I have a Mizuno Fli-Hi 4 hybrid with the NS pro 950 GH Neo shaft. I often use my hybrid when I need a low shot since I don’t seem to be able to launch it. I wonder how I will fare with an HL shaft.
I play Nippon shafts in my irons, would love to try the hybrid/utility shafts. I am a 6.7 index.
Currently gaming a Ping G400 3 (19 degrees) & Srixon ZXiU 3 (20 degrees). Would be happy to swap either or both shafts.
