Wyndham Clark Wins 2026 BMW Championship

St. Louis, MO – Wyndham Clark (-17) won the 2026 BMW Championship. He had to withstand a Sunday charge from Rory McIlroy after entering the final round with a five shot lead. With Rory just one back playing the par 5 17th, a mistake on approach caused him to make a bogey while Clark made birdie to take a three stroke lead into the final hole. In the end, Clark birdied the final three holes to put an exclamation mark on the win.

Clark’s season could put him in the conversation for Player of the Year, after adding this trophy to his second US Open as well as another PGA Tour win.

Finishing behind him in solo second three strokes back was Patrick Cantlay. Rory McIlroy finished in third, one behind Cantlay at -13. Gary Woodland, Chris Gotterup, and Collin Morikawa finished T4 at -12.

Cantlay made three straight birdies coming in to secure his position. He was the biggest mover of the day, jumping way up in the FedEx Cup standings to claim a spot in the field next week.

Woodland punched his ticket to East Lake for the first time since 2019, and secured his playing privileges in all the high level events for the next two seasons. Robert Macintyre also played his way into next week’s TOUR Championship, jumping up the leaderboard to T7 at -10 with a Sunday 65.

Scottie Scheffler put in perhaps the most surprising and disappointing performance of the week, finishing T12 at -7. It turns out he was dealing with an issue that many parents of young children can empathize with: Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease. The result illustrated just how high Scheffler’s floor is, relative to other top golfers on tour. The finish won’t impact his overall standing as world number one, and leader in the FedEx Cup heading into next week.

The end of the 2026 BMW Championship means that the end of FedEx Cup as we have known it is nigh. The annual playoff series has succeeded in doling out mountains of cash to the game’s top players but has been far from entertaining for golf fans. Compare it to the electric atmosphere of any other major sport and its flaws are obvious. It will be interesting to see how new CEO Brian Rolapp changes things up for the postseason going forward.

Next week, the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings head to East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta for the TOUR Championship. The Tour will then take a break until the Presidents Cup in about a month and the fall series after that.
